Moist Turkey secret, high protein THANKSgiving cookies, umm for the BIRD & dark ,sagey, cornbread stuffing

Happy THANKS-Giving

Moist turkey, secret revealed, protein rich cookies, sagey cornbread stuffing, all below

I love the story about Thanks-giving over at Abba Stories check it out
Feed a Hungry Family

Of course here at farm funnies you just never know what to expect, do you ?
Here is a recipe for some cookies, that I personally think the BIRD would enjoy more than I would.
I can do most things, but making this recipe ,even for the BIRD , finds me a bit squeamish just thinking about it.( Oh and we currently have 3 toms one hen and one juvie, and yes they are enjoying a peaceful THANKS-giving, chowing down on what else...mom "catered" meals, but definitely NOT these cookies:-)

I am sharing this recipe in the event some adventurous soul out there would like to try these, please do not send me any :-) YIKES! Actually, I came across this recipe while researching beardies and geckos diets, of all things.

OK, OK ,fun and my silly post aside, I will share our cornbread dressing recipe, below:

Now for the "yummy" for the BIRD cookies,

PROTEIN RICH COOKIES
1-1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt mix the dry ingred.to blend
1 cup soft butter
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar (packed) cream ( beat butter and sug's to creamy texture)
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs beat in vanilla and eggs , add dry ingred
stir in
1-1/2 cups chocolate chips ( omit if making for "da" BIRD or any critter)
and TA DA (1/2 cup) crumbled dried mealworms*

* to dry DA BUGS...Place the cleaned and prepared mealworms ( not sure how one prepares these critters ) on a cookie sheet and dry in the oven 1 -2 hrs 200F
-----
Then preheat oven to 375F In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda and salt. cream butter, white sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla. Stir in eggs. Gradually add the flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and mealworms. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet, and bake 8- 10 minutes.
-------
Here turkey turkey turkey...gobble,gobble,gobble

a handsome royal palm fella,
a pair of equally handsome bronze's, struttin' their "stuff" CORNBREAD STUFFING
o k ...now for the corn bread stuffing,
fair warning... this is "bad" ( well currently "politically" incorrect, a number of years ago, it was good for your survival)
I save the drippings from the BIRD and since it is only once a year use it
for the "juices" for the stuffing, very rich and very tasty, very "bad" but hey

as mentioned, our hunter ,gathering forefathers would have used this kind of cooking to keep weight on for those long cold winters for SURVIVAL, so much the better if they started the winter with a feast that put on a few pounds. By spring those extra pounds , were most likely GONE, if not they worked themselves off ,getting the ground ready for spring planting, or from choppin'/carrying wood and of course chopping and melting and a packin' ice for water for kids kin and critters alike. ( hey I have to break ice an/or pack water in the frozen times too, just a part of the critter health benefits,
why it's like having your own private "gym" work out and it's FREE :-) and the "audience adores every move you make, no matter how you look.

I make my favorite cornbread recipe , I often grind dried whole corn kernels into corn meal with a stone grinder. ( or you can "cheat" and buy a cornbread mix or even a bag of cornbread crumbs,

I use real butter to saute' chopped onions and often green onions as well ( I don't use celery, but here you could add about a cup or so and saute' it too, a very L-o-n-g- story , hubby who is easy to please? won't have celery in anything, nor eat fish, beets, ready made salads,or those roasted chickens, I think you see a trend here, umm but he's not fussy ? Oh well ,he's still a keeper :-)... I don't like sauerkraut so perhaps that makes us even?

I use chicken bouillon cubes for broth, especially if I forgo the drippings,
poultry seasonings(about 2 tsps , sugar (splenda) aprox 3-4 TBSP and sage 3 tsp or so to taste , I do stir the speasonings , especially the sage into the butter and drippings, it lets more of the flavor "out'
sorry no real measurements here, I generally double a cornbread recipe a day or so before making my stuffing, I several squares of fresh cornbread one each for hubby and I to enjoy one square with butter with a simple meal of soup , beans, chili or ? and for an evening meal of cornbread in a glass of milk, really it is very good.
Of course these recipes are only for those who are not doing our 5&1, ( I do have some recipes for holidays if you are)
I use 1 or 2 cubes of butter, depending on the amount cornbread, which I crumble by hand
into a course meal like texture in a big steel bowl.
Then I add the butter, onion(and celery) and the drippings, and bouillon broth to make a very moist dressing, I put this in a casserole or loaf pan and bake for about an hour. (covered with foil) with the turkey.

Oh, here is a super moist TURKEY SECRET...preheat your oven to 450 degrees, for 15 min. then ,place a tent of foil over your turkey. a bit snugger over the legs (do not seal, just drape and fold a bit to cover the top of the bird, return to the oven, in a few min lower the temp to 325 and finish roasting for the remaining required time for the size of bird you have.

Happy huntin',bakin'stuffin'chopin'munchin'and well CRUNCHING on those cookies ...I double dog dare ya! And of course giving... be sure and check the link to Abba Stories, and my merry heart post about giving,

Especially have a blessed THANKS-giving

recipes for the proper care and feeding of your husband

ARE YOU MY MOMMA ?

Good old fashioned ,dark, rich, spicy, pumpkin pie recipie follows,
one our Pilgrims and Indians would be proud of.

Here at farm funnies you just never know what to expect do you ?

That's OK, sometimes neither do I ! :-)

Well this post is not about my hubby being a real turkey, but sometimes perhaps I am.
I was remind of this just a few minutes ago when I was looking up something for a friend.
Of all things ,I was trying to locate an MD Women's Dr. whom I can't remember her name just now, and I thought maybe it was Dr Laura. Googling, what did I get ? DR. Laura of course.
The one I like hearing on a radio talk show.
What do you know ,here was her book , the one I've thought about purchasing,
and I could read it online.
Ugh! while I agree wholeheartedly, I was reminded of how far I am from doing what I want for my husband. The proverbs 31 woman, the doe eyed, honey I adore you helper. Hmm did I need reminding , I've become busy looking past the mote in my own eyes, while I am "helping" with the speck in his eye, oh well, I guess I am a real turkey .....SQUAWK !

I love listening to Dr. Laura, and wow this book is full of wonderful "recipes"

Since I've promised you some Harvest recipes, I thought hey, why not just give you a link to

a book for some real "treats" and down home "cooking". I mean if you read and apply

these "recipes" you may have some really great reactions in your home too! Check it out.

The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands - Google Books Result

Ok , so this is a pun of sorts. I really did want to share the book information, but
I just couldn't resist doing it in a fun way , so here is a link for some great food recipes too.

http://www.cooks.com/

AND I will also include a great recipe for Thanksgiving.

It is for what else PUMPKIN PIE yum, this is one of our favorites.
We like dark rich spicy ones, not the bland ones. You are in for a treat if you bake these.

This is for two pies.

The day before, milk your favorite Jersey milk cow, strain her milk into a clean jar
set it in the fridge, let it set overnight...
THEN in a large bowl place
3 eggs (slightly beaten with a fork) , 2 cups of pumpkin
1 cup of dark brown sugar, 1/2 tsp salt , 1 1/4 tsp of cinnamon
3/4 tsp of ginger, 1/4 tsp each of cloves and nutmeg, 1 tsp of vanilla
1 1/3 cup of evaporated milk, 1/2 cup of molasses ( I use unsulphered)
pour into 2 unbaked pie shells.
place in 425 o oven bake 10 min and turn down to 350o 40 to 45 min
(until a knife inserted comes out clean, not sticky)
cool and refrigerate. ( or you can add 2 1/2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice, instead of the spices)

Now the best part, beat the cold cream into a luxurious whipped cream
( be careful or you'll have butter for those yummy hot rolls, which is OK, but be sure you have more cream on hand) quickly add sugar to taste and 1/2 - 1 tsp of vanilla

Let me know how many converts you get :-)

yummy low carb bars, for on the go

Are you tired, feeling a bit heavy or bloated ?
Perhaps that last sushi was just a bit much.

Did I discover a "secret" or what? New yummy bars, they are nutritional balanced and low carb, Lower ,that is ,than our older and also yummy bars. Now you can enjoy more than one per day and still lose 2-5 lbs a week, YAY ! Boy did they save the day for this farm gal, who was hoofin' it.

It was one of THOSE days. You know the ones, pouring rain, cold . At farm funnies , it doesn't matter how cold, how rainy or even how you feel , the bare bones critter care is still
a daily necessity. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy this. Sometimes the the cold and rain slows me down.
After all I still had :
alpaca girls to see if they were spitting off...WHAT IS THAT ? I'll bet you are wondering :-) well come back and read an upcoming post and I will tell you :-)
leaves to rake, and burn, before they got any soggier, umm they are easier to manage when they are dry, of course..
sawdust to load into a wheel barrow , haul our foot paths, dump and spread before the paths turn to mushy mud.
computer work for my business as well as calls to make and well yada, yada yada,
Woof , Woof says Kate and Roo, what about our walk ?
Meow , Meow, Meow says the kitty's ...we want some love and a tummy rub.
Oh and I can't forget ,some extra cleaning for the up coming holidays .
WHEW !

Did I have time to take time to fix a meal, just for myself ?
Perhaps, but I didn't want to, and guess what ?
I didn't have to, my nutritious order with the new bars had just ARRIVED.

Since I like sharing the good stuff (check out an earlier post about artist and crafters, friends of mine) I thought hey, why not share one of our new bars with my blog friends, YOU, of course.

So for the very first time, I am offering to send a free bar to the first 10 people who contact me,

I will need your phone #, e-mail address and of course mail address AND your birthday (month and day only). The bars are physician approved for nutrition and meal replacements for on the go and for fast, safe weight loss) , plus they are pharmaceutical grade meals.

Chocolate mint crunch, caramel crunch and peanut butter crunch .

You choose, and enjoy,

are your ducks (well turtles?) all in a row

Here they are, getting ready for the forced migration into the big 80 gallon tank, for the winter.
Yep the fun in the sun is no more, we are into the rainy season now, and soon COLD..so not for my turtle buddies (well some turtle raisers do let them hibernate, but it is tricky business, so I do what most recommend, keep them warm and active)
The basketball is behind them to illustrate how these little darlings grew. WOW.
There " were " :-( 3 red eared sliders (since this photo, Big greenie a favorite, passed away )
and one Mississippi map, (you need to verify these are kept for educational purposes, in some states, when you purchase them )
What about you, are you getting ready for the holidays?
Perhaps not as drastic as a move to the big tank as my turtles just experienced. (though they do love it)
Do you have your menu planned or perhaps itinerary?
What about your heart? Is it ready for the holidays?
I just wrote a new post at my merryheart blog , with links to several great radio programs I recently listened to. so check it out especially about lies we believe.
meantime how about a recipe for turtle soup...just kidding :-)
