It's "official" tomorrow Aug 1st is WILD DAY ,

Yes tomorrow early dawn Aug 1st is WILD DAY.

Did you know that? It is actually our 3rd annual WILD DAY

our oldest granchild created this new holiday ,so it is "official" !

WILD DAY has certain "qualifications, by the way :-) and ones this

grandma has fun complying with.

The 1st two WILD DAYS we had a wild time here at farm funnies

then had a "convoy" to Safari Sam's.

Both years we all managed to piled into our SUV. We travelled through the city traffic jungle for a "wild" safari trip to Safari Sam's

all enjoyed a rather WILD game of minature golf in the dark blacklighted "jungle".

This year, due some time constraints and other travel logistics, we will remain at farm funnies , akka Chocolate Birdsong Alpaca's to some of you.

I am trying to figure out where my giant black box spider can "reweave" her trecherous web.

Sadly one of the trees her gigantic web was attatched to was "sick" and had to come down.

This year wild animal croquette "tournament" with prizes.

A scavanger hunt, around the farm and in the woods.

What will we eat?

Spider dogs,

Buffalo burgers from a neighbor who raises buffalo (if his farm store is open today)

Grilled corn, wildly skewered veggies

Homemade lemonade, sweetened with honey from our "tame" bees

(we do have a wild bee hive, sorry but this fam funnies mom is leaving their honey ALONE!

they are too wild for me).

Potato salad and baked beans.

REAL Icecream cones (not the "plastic" icream stuff in the stores)

Homemade cheese cake with wild blackberry topping picked on our farm.

Perhaps some ladybug cookies and gummy "worms"

You can be stuck in mud or snow , REALLY !

"Glued" to a project...

In a "jam" or in a pickle perdicament.

"Up a creek", w/o a paddle (BOTH WAYS)

"Tarred" & feathered (well, plucking a goose does coat you with lots of downy feathers, minus the tar)

Wasn't it only yesterday? Time is a gift,it doesn't stand still

Time doesn't stand still..

Little Roo is gone, we lost him earlier this year.

Roo spent an adventerous packed 7 yrs with us.

Roo was a true life hero, he rescued our oldest grandchild

who fell into water over their head.

Roo gallantly went into the cold, deep water and pulled them out.

Roo sometimes you pushed my buttons.
You defineatly had a mind of your own.

I always and forever am so grateful you were the dog chosen

to help us on our farm.

Roo, you were not only a blessing, but sometimes I wondered if you were an angel in disguise.

The things you stretched me on were uncanny.

Watching an insiprational vido this morning, I thought of how quickly time has passed:
I thought Roo's baby picture epitomised how quickly time has passed in our lives.

Wasn't it only yesterday I was excited & terrified as a new bride,
later terrified when hubby was in the ICU with paracaditis ?

Wasn't it only yesterday I was crying myself to sleep when I wasn't conceiving?

Wasn't it only yesterday I was estactic to discover YES I was pregnant with our 1st ?

Wasn't it only yesterday I felt the first flutter of movement, then a kick, then held our baby in my arms?

Wasn't it only yesterday I gave birth to our 2nd child ,relieved that I could have the same abundant
love for another baby, something that haunted me my whole pregnancy .

Wasn't it only yesterday I gave birth to our 3rd, winning the battle over death BECAUSE I had a
newborn, two toddlers and a hard working hubby to live for?

Wasn't it only yesterday each child went off to kindergarten, graduated ,married, moved away?

Wasn't only yesterday our 1st, 2nd , 3rd and 4th grandchild were born ?

Fun ideas for celebrating the 4th of July.. Independance Day

Here at farm funnies we love the 4th of July.

We love to find fun ways to celebrate and of course we enjoy all the sharing.

We are so grateful for our freedom..

a big THANK YOU to our military,and their families, past present & future.

We owe a great deal to you.

JULY 4th 2010,

We often have a camp out ,dogs and all.

I use to let the horses loose to graze on the yard, amongst our tents & picnic tables.

For me it is great to enjoy a real TRIBAL experiance. (we have Indian heritage).

I loved this,but with lots of little ones ,during recent years, I haven't let our horses enjoy the 4th with us, in this capacity. I may let Barbie(our 40" pony) join us for part of our "wild" pony/tribe experiance this year.

I truly believe in America as a melting pot, so I like to take the best of all of our heritages

and mix them all together for loads of fun.

My little "plug" ,for those of us who agree,to become a "tipping point"

Let's go back towards how America use to be, and stop letting others change us into their

singular ideas.

A few years ago, we painted a 4x8 sheet of plywood white and set it up outside,

for a huge movie screen.

We had a borrowed DVD projector and we played fun kid movies until the kids were tucked into their

sleeping bags, then us grownups stayed up & watched the "boring" movies.

This was a hit for one and all.

Fireworks ,of course.

RATS, did I mention, I hate rats, big small or paper.

Everyone else seems to love finding ways to stick these

little grey paper exploding ones where I will step on them, one day they may be sorry...YIKES

One of my daughters is helping me plan a treasure hunt for the grandkids.

I use to create these for our kids.

I created wacky rhyming clues,some with scripture riddles, some with odd family sayings,some with quotes from favorite books.

The clues would lead the kids on wild goose chases throughout our yard,pasture & woods to find

our dinner.

Any item that could be easily contained (to protect it from would be critter investigations) I buried, put up in trees or wherever I thought of at the time).

The highlight was finding a watermelon buried in wet sand on our riverbank.

I created a wacky riddle from the Hobbit of Lord of the Rings.

It became one of our past most treasured clues :

You will find the next food item ...

Where there are critters who are ever thirsty, always drinking,

All in mail,never clinking.

Run past Bonnie's hideaway, to the wild bee tree where many a summer book was read,

find an x marking the "spot" ,

proceed with a Tiffany "manuever" minus the gopher, to find your treasure...

----------------------------------------------It's your turn-----------------------------------------

Make up your own treasure hunt, set up a mini golf course(the tuna can challenge or ?)

Let your kids, or neighbor kids help you.

Set up a dunk tank,slippy slide for prizes or obstacle course,

Set up a scavanger hunt.

Our 4th menu

BBQ ribs (what else?) hot dogs, potato salad

roasted corn, green salad, a blackberry cobbler and homemade icecream

chips and dips cans of pop in an ice chest cooler. and of course S'mores.

Even if you live in a itty bitty apt( I have too) you can be inventive and creative.

Why not pack your lunch and head to the mall, a park, beach, zoo, or ?

Plan a fun menu, you could even create clues for each dinner item,even if it simply lead from one place to another (a backwards dinner is fun, I'll get you started... In stead of runing in a circle, find our favorite store for our 3 ringed circus dessert ( donuts), kind of lame, but you get the idea.

Go to the$1 store for small favors/prizes etc. Be sure to have sparklers and snakes for the kids to enjoy

with adult supervision,of course.

BOND as your own family TRIBE..BOND with your neighbors.

ENJOY, CELEBRATE, each of us in America have much to be thankful for.

You have time to do this..yes, you do... If I can you can.

but using my poetic license and my spotty clue recollection, this is what seemed close to the

1. It's time to eat, so shake a leg! See if you can find a "dinosaur egg". They like to nest where it's nice and cool, so look for our "egg" at a shady pool. (Watermelon hidden at the river bank -- assuming there is still an accessible bank somewhere).

2. In Moses' time, God sent bread from the sky. Not a bad idea, let's give it a try. Search through the woods, look high and low. But hurry it up before we all have to go! (Hot dog/Hamburger buns in a basket/bucket hanging from a tree).

3. The base of this dish came from where you've just been. When we finally eat, think of that place again. Head out back and into the shade. And by the way, you might need a spade. (Potato salad in a jar inside a ziplock bag, buried in the back yard).

4. Even the horses like a good snack. We know you do too, but please bring these back! Look where the snacks for the horses are stored. And keep moving briskly, we're all getting bored! (Chips/sealed snacks by the grain).

5. Let's grill up some dogs without any fur, so go to the place where our dogs once were. If you're confused, no need to give in: Search for a chest where your dad used to swim. (Meat inside an ice chest, possibly under a tarp, in the area where the old dog run/swimming pool used to be).

What kind of a bad day was it?

Was "it" your hair, your job, your spouse,family,mom,dad , kids ?

Maybe it was something you ate, or something some one said..

MAYBE it was none of those, but one of what I call the internal(and infernal) naggy nellies...

You know what I mean..those voices of the past... You're too ... LITTLE/BIG

so ...SLOW , you'll ...NEVER GET.." it" ,be GOOD enough, YaDa YaDa YaDa...

Right now....STOP...THINK...those are "only" voices in your PAST...

They are neither here, now or in YOUR FUTURE..UNLESS... you decide to let them be.

Look in the mirror...YES I am serious, LOOK even if you have tears streaming down your face

as the naggy nellies play their broken record AGAIN.. I did this years ago during what I call one of my

Anne of Green Gables... in the DEPTHS of DESPAIR days...

Then ,I made a conscious decision toSTOP & move forward..and believe me I had a whole team of naggy nellies.

Now I can view them as a blessing in disquise, even if they rear their heads and try taunting me at times.
(and they will)

If you are "there" and the naggy nellies are trying to choke you, remember with every black rain cloud, AFTER ...there can be growth and beauty.

In nature this will happen on it's own..with us humans, we have the ability to let the sun come out or not..

It's our CHOICE.

Ok , are you looking in that mirror? Let the pain, the past be validated ...it's not too late..

Then let yourself be recipient

of the love, understanding, comfort, warmth you should have had.
Isn't it about time to heal?

Picture/imagine yourself in the crushed "spot" , then let a Leave it to Beaver, Ozzie & Harriet ,supernanny kind of mom & dad

wrap loving arms around you , holding you safe & secure EVEN if the "spot" was after you were grown..we all can use the love and warmth of a loving mom & dad, no matter how old we are, what kind of parents we had or didn't have (because in a perfect world we would have, but we are not in a perfect world,are we?)..( Oh, you don't know who the Harriets and others are? watch the links below) ,

NOW

Exale , breathe deep and let go of the past..STOP the naggy NELLIES...Yes , you can...

THEN

#1 Get out a piece of paper, write down your dreams,give yourself freedom to let yourself go..the bigger the better.

#2 Do a reality check...where are you right now?

a. what is stopping/hindering you?

b. what do you need to do..Yes ...YOU... don't wait for someonelse to do "it",

because they can't, not even with a million dollars or a bag of gold..because this is YOUR LIFE

. Your life is a gift and your choices are what can make the difference....

c. if you can't let go of the past, I encourage you to find good councilling

d. if you can let go of the past and have decided to move forward , FANTASTIC,

the sky is the limit..

#3 write down a plan with action steps, be accountable, then DO it...(if you slip up, just climb back on and keep moving forward to your goal.

#4 seriously consider aquiring your own personal coach, ...especially if you are stuck, if you can't see the forest for the trees, or are trying to put together some of your great ideas and are unsure of which comes 1st..the chicken or the egg ( well ,this blog isn't called farm funnies for nothing..even when there is yolk on your face, life can be great..
In reality ,it can be, even if you're at the bottom of Anne's pit of despair and it seems awfully dark and lonely, been there done that , as I said.

dog training can be smelly

Katie, she is such a sweetheart,
but sadly something happened in her puppy past, before she came to live with us.
While she is brave and so willing to please, sometimes she thinks she's in trouble when she is not
and she'll go to her bed.

I decided to try a new technique, it seemed reasonable enough, even though I'm not
one who agrees with the current methods of leader of the pack , top dog type training.

Let your dog have it's head above yours to boost confidence...hmmm, well maybe?
I'll give it a go I thought, hmm, I can't say it did much for either of us,
Kate just kept trying to get her head under mine. I have a painful neck so
I really don't want to do this unless we have some terrific response.

OK , I'll carefully give it another go I thought , while we were outside between chores.
I worked to get my head under hers, Kate equally trying hard to do the same.
OH NO>>>> what have you been doing???
KATE...phew.......

I'll bet you can guess who both got a good bath....with some super good smelling soap!

So... if you plan on being the submissive dog to boost your dog's confidence,

OK so it is getting late,
I totally "get" that part...

Just why can't my computer co-operate, is it fate?
I've pleaded,whined , info it just won't impart ,

My e-mail, my folders ...are they all gone?
The good ol' days , give me a pony and that there mail "express"

'Cause you could hold it ,fold it and see it come dawn,
then entice pony with a carrot, and give pony a loving caress.

This computer, has no feelings, "she" crashed ,her motherboard did flipflop
leaving me with picking up pieces, and wringing my hands

Why even the online e-mail is non compliant, , yep it too came to a stop
are they in cahoots? if not, then what gives ? I ask ,as they both RUIN my plans

So stop I say, no more e-mail tonight, not even just one more
no lessons, no webinars , I cry .. away with you too

I have had it with all of you , it's time to snooze,perhaps even snore
and when I awake you'd best be good or I'll be really blue

Good thing for you, I am WOMAN, I am FEMALE

Diversion NOT avoidance, why don't we change & National Saltwater Taffy Day

It is officially National Salt Water Taffy day...
My computer was so VERY sick it had to be "life flighted"

MAMA..it cried..(the motherboard is so bad it needed a transfusion)
I am choosing to view this as a reminder of how essential women (and us MOMS,even biz minded farm funnies ones :-) are so essential in all area's of life, us ol gal's can and do change :-)

I also have to come realize..sometimes a diversion, NOT avoidance , can be a good thing
Thus this a.m. I reasoned w/o my computer, (well , after all this loaner KNOWS..nothing...)
I would have the resident farmfunnies hero..(akka hubby..)
set the downloaded harddrive, or whatever into motion to install onto my loaner laptop, since it will be weeks and weeks before my computer can come home.
And because I can.. go and  enjoy National Saltwater Taffy Day.

Steps to enjoy National Saltwater Taffy Day...
#1 if you are currently on a health regieme for a particular reason
     or doing a program like our 5 &1 to lose weight.. stay right where you are...
     i.e. continue with what you have committed to do ( don't step off the path for "just" a day)
#2 if you are at your goal and especially if you have a bunch of kids around.. make a batch of TAFFY
      ahem...a small farm funnies "soapbox" here..
      with a little demographic lesson...we ( AMERICA) NEED more than
      1.2 kids"replacement" per family, the proponents of "small" families are WRONG, scary stuff
       out there with demographic info....( another soapbox, sigh)
#3   reframing...when you have obstacles (sick computers), turn them into challenges to solve, or into
       solutions and if possible..even FUN.... that is why I am not avoiding , I amd DIVERTING..
       I have decided to have some FUN with farm funnies hubby on National Salt Water Taffy day
       YAY
#4   Look at what you have facing you right now...finacial,health,squabbling kids, (sick computers)
       whatever, "obstacles"...then look for the silver lining. ( TAFFY?, not that I am a proponent for
       letting food , EVER solve a problem or even be a comfort...(watch the video and see why)
#5   REALLY...watch the video link below...let the questions be meant just for you..make a decision to
      BE who you REALLY are..
      the video is approxamately an hour. I'm sure.you will not regret this time
      then make that Taffy ( or, at least say next year AT my goal I will...)

YUM,YUM,YUM..Chocolate dipped Brownie lollipops

I have made cake balls and dipped them in both white and dark chocolate..VERY nice...very pretty.
When I saw this recipie e-mail link and read how they were made, I just knew these would be a winner...
Wouldn't these look great on our Christmas cookie trays?

Look in my archives for various holidays to see some of my cookie trays.
I am in a "down" mode with a loaner lap top, so all of my photo's are on "vacation"
or I would include a photo of some of my "goodies"

A few words of caution, cake balls are "wicked" , I'm sure the brownie "pops" will be decadent "killers",
SO you may want to wait for a holiday before you make them so you can parcel the little duffers out..
I wouldn't want to have leftovers looking at me :-)

Also if you are one of my clients currently doing our 5 & 1, reading the recipie is ok..making them
even for someoneelse, not a good idea....YET...you will get there and with our program, safely & quickly. YAY, so remember patience is a virtue and in this case you will reap great benefits...

Well ,I wouldn't call this young man a babe..

He is really quite the guy...but hey, the title worked for me.

I was so touched by the following youtube.. believe me if you have a tender heart ,love kids & critters

Here at farmfunnies we have quite a few four footed

two footed,fur and feathered "folk" that share our lives, and occasionally you lose some..Sad times.

When I listened to Logan my heart ,was flodded with sympathy for his aching heart as well as for the

memories of beloved ones who have left us.

This photo here is a picture of Barbie..she is still with us. I looked and looked for a photo of Tina but came up empty handed for now.

Barbie is somewhat following in Tina's footprints, she came into our lives because of the loss of Tina and the plea of our eldest grandchild . Tina was missed very, very much and I was asked .. if we couldn't get another pony, please grandma....

Well ,what is a grandma to do when a little pony named Barbie, kind of falls into her lap,so to speak.

Tina : the wonderful steed who came to us as a weanling.. wilder than a march hare.

With lots & lots of TLC & training , she went on to become the mount responsible for teaching all of our children, many of their friends , children who visited us over the years, how to "ride".
Tina either let them enjoy their first ride on a horse(with help) or learn how to... RIDE.

Once Tina knew you had the basics "down" the "kid" gloves came off.

Let your mind wander and off you would sail ,if you became just a "passenger"...

I am a bonified to the depth of my soul horse lover...

I am envious of the lessons Tina gave our children.

I can ride fairly well, have even trained numerous ponies horses, over the years (two waiting for such now)many with very bad habits .

Thanks to Tina ,all of our children learned to ride better than me.

Logan, a prayer for you right now, wherever you are, my heart sends you much warmth too.

My artistic side loves the vision of a field of strawberries
covered with dew.
It glistens in the early morning sun
with it's vibrant color of RUBIES and EMERALDS,beset with
dazzling ,dancing diamonds...

My soul grasps the glorious promise the field hold out to us..
Spring is here, ,there is new life, love, abundance, hope...
the very air is alive with these promises,as the wind whispers across the fields,making the diamond dew drops sparkle.
The birds burst into happy exuburance  " winter is over".

I even love to pick strawberries, although my crawing on the ground days are long gone...
I love to look at them, smell them, eat them AND......
what else dip them in chocolate YUM.....

Berries hand picked in an Oregon field near you is the BEST
(although my hubby says ALL his berries are picked by hand??

Speaking with SUPER DENNIS early this a.m. then listening to him as a presenter
on our WOW webinar this afternoon ,where he shared tips on how to use our i7500 Samsung Galaxy phones ... I was thinking of his SUPER qualities...he is quickly surfacing as a leader to "watch"!
I will be able to smugly say..I "knew" him "way back" when he was just another Ren Pro CC coach in training !

After our WOW webinar..ummm...I of course had to check out some more phone features..
HA...I got "stuck" in airplane OFF mode...
I am a painter,artsy,critter gal not a cool GADGETS gal..
although "when" I figure this "rig" out I am sure I will love it... I REALLY,REALLY want to use the video
and tethering modes...so far I haven't figured them out...makes me envy our sons techie brain!

I do love the money it has already brought my way...how cool is it for a "phone" to not only save money
but to earn money...hey.. I may be computer challenged..but money???
I sure can figure out what to do with that :-)....go SH-O-OP-P-Ping ...

I have watched it about 15 times now.

I've laughed and I've cried...One might ask why...

It reminds me of so many things,

memories tucked so safely away...

Our children not wanting to go to sleep,

I love celebrating everything...

When our children were little , I made it a practice to look for ways to celebrate life..

I still do

We all remember,with fondness, our very merry unbirthday parties....

None of us know the days we as individuals have left, to yet celebrate,

nor are we "privy" with that info about our loved ones.

be they two footed,four footed or like my beloved (albeit expired) koi.."no" footed ...

That is why I seek every opportunity to enjoy what we have,while we can...

I encourage you to do the same..each breath ,truly is a blessing...

It is NEVER to late to do something,no matter how small..

I enjoy following through on promptings,I am often the one most blessed..

MEAL Time:

Personally, I love lamb and would only serve lamb for Easter..

However,amidst "anti" lamb protests &and bring home the 'bacon clamoring ", I ---endulge our family. .

( I find it somewhat humorous, of all the critters we have shared our lives with over the years

farmfunnies pop has planted a firm NO foot against swine "pets'

personally I think a little teacup porker would be just "swill" :-)

however... it is the meat of his choice? go figure,

so farmfunnies mom "packs" home the bacon ...amidst 'squeals of delight!

Perhaps when farmfunnies mom gets "old" and set in her ways... lamb will "rule" :-)

until then here ,is our typical Easter menu

Ham (pagan) unless I prepare a turkey ham :-)...

peas&and potatoes in a cream sauce

fresh spring asparagus,

green salad,,with chopped nuts, sliced strawberries ,grated cheddar ; sour cream dressing.

green jello , veggie relish and dips.

Better than Robert Redford ? Lemon lush creamcheese dreamcake.

Lamb cake...(yep ..I bake one in our "heirloom" lamb cake pan,cocount fleece and all)..kids love this..

and YES..I make horizantal cuts to layer and "fill" it first...

(recipie for my cream cheese dreamcake....)

crust: 1 cup flour,1cube of butter softened,1/2cup of toasted nuts..chpd

mix together pat in 9x13 pan. bake 375o 15 min cool

blend 1 cup whipped cream(or cool whip) 8oz soft creamcheese,1cup pwd sug(or splenda)

spread on cooled crust

blend 2 3oz pkts of instant lemon pudding (or choc) 3 3/4 cups milk spread over whpd cream

spread additional whipped cream over the top sprinkle with nuts chill....YUMMM...

dinner started,table set..

.Now for some "fun"

(in real time ) this is premeditated fun...perhaps weeks in advance)

EVERYONE has rather large baskets ,saved year to year. TRADITION...

when all could afford the extra calories... I use to make a huge solid choc bunnies for them,

now I find a very large hollow bunny,in a box..to make the basket look LOADED..

I arrange the basket "treasures" around this

THEN I encase the entire basket inside one of those clear gift bags

(2 for $1 at the $1 store)

AND

I hide the baskets

THEN I give each basket "hunter" a treasure map complete with a homemade rhyming clues

one well remembered "stumper" clue

find clue # 7 where Alice stores her "treasure"...

hmm the clue was where we had a hidden key...no one connected the "dots" sigh...

weather permitting the basket hunt can be over an acre of trails...

hmm one would think after such a robust hunt they may be hungry enough to eat lamb?

THINK again..NOT,

lamb & fish seem to go together for this "clans" uncultured palates.

Basket "saver" ideas..

akka how to fill many baskets w/o breaking the bank!

I use this same "system" to make large goodie trays for over 25 people at farmfunnies "pop's work

Brownies...they can fill up a rather large area and make a substantial "base"

that everyone love..akka no leftovers...

(muffins or cupcakes , also work well for my tray of plenty "ploy")

I don't put the squishy items in kid baskets however.. for adult baskets this would work ok

more super "fluffers"rice crispies marshmallow treats,these can be wrapped

(with plenty of chow hounds, akka fourfooted basket looters...everything has to be individually wrapped)

poptart pkts,individual cereal boxes, fruit leather rolls, fruit "gummy pkts

I wish our "clan" loved nuts, these would be good fillers,and good for you)

some jelly beans,peeps or whatever each placed inside plastic eggs to "hide"

(akka... no unfound eggs, to later spoil in the yard, if some "hound" hasn't found it, either)

It is fun to insert a lollipop stick into a snickers bar, add a dab of royal icing

and "glue" on one of those little sugar decorations(found in cake decorating supply stores)

or your own piped flower ,etc.

wrap the bar with clear plastic ,securing it with a pretty a ribbon

decorated cookies or even store bought cookies "jazzed" up can help fill a basket

ohhh, how about fig newtons dipped in melted vanilla chocolate& sprinkled with pastel sprinkles.

how about strawberries dipped in chocolate?

although most strawberries you find now. taste like cardboard in my opinion.

(to jazz up a treat ,dip "it" in melted white or dk chocolate..

sprinkle with cake deco , while it is still gooey,etc..

just get DOWN and let yourself be creative.

have a cookie deco & exchange with your neigbors

ready set GO-O

hey while you are at it ,think about taking a tray of goodies to a senior center,the armory or ?

Oh mama dear ...see here, see hear, our mittens we have found..
WHAT ? found your mittens you darling little kittens...
Farm funnies mom will make some pie...

Well ,I didn't make any pie, but I did make a delightful
new biscut recipie for breakfast .. it calls for something that is very good for us..
FLAX seed..yep and what a fun way to use them .
These treasures are high in fiber,omega 3 and WOW low in carbs

So what does this mean? It means if you are not in the middle of
our 5&1 (what farm funnies mom and pop used for our amazing weight loss journey that was fast,safe,easy,physician apporoved to get us >>>>>THERE<<<<< YAY ! )
then this is something you could enjoy, just like us :-) ...
I will be sharing more yummy,healthy recipies..that PASS
the farm funnies "gantlet" test, so you better get on my list :-)

Anyways...THIS recipie MADE it....
It made a really decent low carb biscuit to go along with our farm fresh eggs.

Perhaps if you are really good, you might even be able to enjoy some of our fresh churned butter from one of our sweet Jersey cows, well I confess we are cow less right now..so you'll have to settle for real butter from the store, just like we did...

Using butter would depend on how you wanted to spend your
calories...or what extra activities you wanted to do to use up any excess calories...
farm funnies mom and pop worked outside today moving some corral panels , pop fixed our lawnmower and mom mowed..
( Good thing he was gone when I ran across an old buried cable, and killed the engine..
umm I was suppose to only mow the front yard until he returned, since the battery was not working well..sigh

I jacked the mower up (praying I could get it all done before he came back from town, I never enjoy the I told you so's) I got some cable cutters and viola' set 'er free, but I couldn't get the mower to start so we had to push it (again) to one of our cars for a JUMP. hubby said why did you do that..umm duh..because I wanted to get stuck and crawl on the ground to get the cable out of the blades..why else? ( I didn't tell him about when I was mowing beside the house where the ground was soft and going down a small hill and I got stuck and kind of stepped of while holding the seat down so the engine wouldn't get "killed" again to lighten it enough to get it unstuck and it nearly took of with out me..YIKES...life is never dull here on the farm.
That's how we were able to have spend some extra calories today,now what about you?

I think these little kittens are choosing some warm milk, don't you?..

I tried these biscuits ..some with butter, some with honey, and last but not least..
for old times sake I crumbled one up into a glass and added some milk...YUM...very close to my favorite cornbread recipie..( the recipie I make isn't the light fluffy one, I like the dense stick to your ribs kind)

heat your oven to 350 degreees...
use your coffee grinder to grind up a little over 1 cup of flax seeds into a fine meal
you will need 2 cups of meal

add 1 Tbsp of alumaninum free baking powder and 1 tsp iodized sea salt
add 2 pkts( the small ones you use for coffee) of stevia
5 farm fresh eggs (ok, ok I guess store bought eggs would work :-)
1/2 cup water and 1/3 cup of cold pressed olive oil
stir this all together and place on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
spread it out to form a rectangle, but not to the edges, you don't want it too thin..
eyeball it so you will be able to get 12 nice biscuts. bake 20 min ,cut into 12 biscuts..YUM

12 biscuts,185 cal each 6 gms protein, 5g fiber..only .7 gms of effective carbs

KING KONG NUTTY killer bars...

KING KONG NUTTY Killer Bars

1/2 c butter melted

2 c graham crumbs

1 c chocolate chips

1 c butterscotch chips, (try pb butter chips),

1 c shred (try flk)coconut

1 c chp mac nuts, (try other nuts too),

15 oz sweet cond milk ( mix 1 c pwd milk,2/3 c sugar,3 T butter,1/3 c boiling water

blend til smooth ,thick and sug is completely dissolved, put in jar with lid

store in fridge ,until ready to use ( or you can "cheat" and buy a can of sweet cond milk

pour butter in 9 x 13 inch pan.

sprinkle crumbs over butter and press in ..

mix choc & butterscotch chips, coconut, & nuts, sprinkle over crumbs .

Pour sweet cond milk over top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool , cut into bars

the sock monstor and MLM bunny trail has been "captured"

Below is a silly just for fun letter I wrote to one of my kids early this a.m.

After reading it to look for corrections I might need to make, I thought some of you would relate to it ,

so I decided to post it here at my farm funnies as an example of how easily we can justify how our time is spent...

After all, we all have a tendancy to do it don't we?

You know make excuses,get side tracked,justify our little bunny trails

THEN comfort ourselves with I am BUSY..I am WORKING..I am ,I am.. I've been on this computer for "hours" SEE.. my brain is tired, I need a nap, some chocolate, a MOMMY,to give me a magic kiss and make it all better..to make this WORK..

...honestly, this is why so many of us buy THE magic "bullet" for success....(honestly there isn't one)

BUT ...There is HOPE... really..

Yes , there is hope to overcome the bunny trails...

You need a system and accountability..you may need a coach..a coach will assit you with..

I will share these ways in another post..

after reading the letter below you may notice I really do have some horses awaiting their breakfast, it's not very late now, but if I take time to share much more it will be..

I just know you don't want hungry horses on your conscious now do you?

ohhhh I wish you'd called me...I got off internet and went to bed early ( hadn't felt good all day...cold ...achy ...I think I am FIGHTING a bug..here's to hoping WE win..not so sure...just sitting here this a.m. feelin' kinda dizzy...

ha "we'll" see how "that" goes when I get up and go outside to toss hay to the horses...I am still cold & achy all over, I keep thinking it will get warmer..but it's only getting later. When I got up this a.m. I thought ok it's probably just the cold weather making me feel achy ...hmmmmm, I noticed breakfast isn't really all that "happy" either

BOTTOM LINE...after my "whining on line ...or is that line whining or hmmm lining my whining ...hmmm I guess even when "mom" is feeling like whining on line..her humor remains ummmm rather "bazaar???"

or maybe that is due to making my mind whirl from my one by one filtering of on line files ....which are way too many... looking to see what I don't remember I already have...

consequently requiring applications related to the constant need to overcome my "bunny trailing" tendencies...sigh....

One gold star for the day... I see I am learning how to capture the lil bunny and remain focused much longer...

..YIKES , sneaky "bunny" ...now I'm chasing the bunny in the form of what should be simple reply....GOTTCH BUNNY....duh....

I will make sure your box is "covered" I'll cover your request,umm gottcha covered...awwww..is that a baby "bunny"? ( I am really just feeling like being silly and you are "here" aren't you glad..(well if you actually read this you are)

I know HID them..)

OSMOSIS do it for me......I do not see the horses being fed,the WET pile of clothes getting on hangers and above the stove by their selves

HUH???? I do hear rustling in the sink... is "it" working??? NO>>not that ,more dirty dishes..how do they do it??? I declare..I know those dishes are in cahoots and have an invisible replicating system..

I think they are related to the sock monster..you know the one who has a way to make sure there is only one of each pair that makes it through the wash cycle, and the monster makes darn sure none of the single individuals who MAKE it through the was are remotely related.....

ahhhhh...enough rambling...I love ya...mom

I have been so busy here at farmfunnies,I haven't made them yet, I did make sugar free gummy worms a few months ago and I slurrped those right down..they were yummy.

healthy, sugar free gummy critters

LIONS and TIGERS and BEARS

OH MY

purchase some candy molds at a cake decorators supply or arts and craft store ,

or you can order them online

here is one place to look for candy molds

put 1/3 cup of water into a metal pan (non alumanum)

slowly sprinkle in a 3 oz pkt of sugar free jello

then 2 pkts of unflavored (knox type) gelatin

let thes set 10 minto soften the gelatin

set on medium heat stirring until well dissolved(3-4 min)

pour this into a measuring cup with a spout

then pour into you candy molds

let thes set for 15 minutes then place in your freezer until hard

dust some cornstartch on the bottom to prevent sticking

and then pop out of the molds..

Viola' a nutritious sugar free candy for the kids..yummy gummies

(worms can me created by pouring in a shallow pan ,

then cutting 'worms" after they come out of the freezer)

Vera Ellen,Frosty and Sancho

I love goats I always have, we've raised many over the years .
I hope to replace our last ol gals , later this year,after the bulk of our house project is completed.
Vera Ellen..was named for her high kicking "dance steps" when she was young)

One year we had 14 goats, not a large herd,but not exactly small either. With the exception of 1 LaMancha and a few of her airplane eared halfbreeds we raised Nubians. One year someone swapped us a couple of young alpine kids for something,which we inturn swapped for Tiny little Tina. Tina came to us as a weanling: wild and wooly, right off of the "range" so to speak. You couldn't even walk past her without a huge explosive reaction(what were we thinking? ).Tina with much farmfunnies "mom" work ,then some finish work from our learning youngsters ,mellowed into our beloved 40" pony that served our growing children and countless others well,she lived a good long life,leaving us (and our grandchildren just old enough to begin learning to ride in earnest far too soon,due to choke.

Sometime I'll write about Lucy 2000 (who broke her leg twice , the silly goat,you'll hardly believe how she did it...I set it myself and made a sling to hoist her "high &and dry" to keep her immobile while it healed,..)

My love of goats is probably why I had to stop and smell the roses at the Sat market.(well ,this time it was goat soap and hand cream) while visiting my artist pal Jeanne Warren at her Sat market booth.

Of course us gals had to shop..Jeanne asked the next door booth to keep an eye on hers ,while we both went sluething for some "stuff" . We both ended up with hand cream ,artist are that way ,ya know,'cause out hands are subjected to lots of cleaning,washing etc from our projects.

I loved the pinapple goats milk handcream . I don't remember what kind Jeanne chose ,as my gift to her, for being so special.

I don't know Judy of goldenwood goat soaps,nor do I receive anything for promoting her or her products ..I just love goats and her product. I also know it's fun helping others and believe what goes around ,sooner or later comes around.  Judy lives fairly close to me ,so someday I hope to go and visit her farm.

When I saw you were in facebook I thought why not get your long overdue recipie to you...

I just received a yummy best ever gingerbredman
cookie recipie from somone..I waited patiently for it too... so good things finally do come to those who wait ...and yowzers this recipie is really good..

It is one of my all time favorites and always ,always received raving reviews ,leaving me empty handed with an empty
tray,leftovers would have been nice :-)...YUM....

Applesauce Raisin bars

heat oven to 350 degrees

1 cup of flour
2/3 cup of sugar ( I haven't tried it,but it just occured to me brown sugar would perhaps make this even
better)
1 tsp soda, 1 tsp cinn,1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/8th tsp cloves
sift(or still well)the dry ingred together..to mix spices into the flour
add;
1/4 cup of shortening(I always used butter,thank you Toffee,Daphne and Daffodill our beloved Jerseys.
1 cup of sweet applesauce( I always canned without sugar,so I used unsweetened applesauce)
1 egg.."ladies" with the feathers on..take a bow (you gals in the chicken yard , all know who you are)
1/2 cup of raisins

mix everything together and place in a well buttered 9x13 pan
bake 25-30 min

while still warm spread frosting on top

frosting :(this is more glaze like,so could add 1/4-1/2 of the same recipe for a thicker frosting))
brown 2 TBSP of butter add 2 TBSP of milk,1/2 tsp of vanilla ,2cups of pwd sugar (if lumpy sift otherwise the lumps will show)

yummm....can I come over to your house for coffee AND..... :-)

I love our little bouncing horse
she was always a big dreamer.

Years ago she was the trusted and faithful steed
for all three of our children. She safely carried them across deserts,through swamps,up mountains,and
rescuing damsels in distress and boldly carrying her rider to victory after victory.

With reverence and respect I sadly put her out to pasture, carefully tucking her
up in the attic rafters for safe keeping.

As our children grew,they each had a "real"horse of their own. We still have two of them with us here at
farmfunnies. Midnight and Ginger. Hummer,Tina,April and Sheba are now grazing on heavenly grass in gold and silver meadows . Ruby and emerald boulders beset the edges of their meadow.

Our children,while not died in the wool horse lover/fanatics as their mom (me)
became more skillful riders than myself ,their hopeless horse loving mom.
I envied them.

With grandchildren now, I have become a bouncing horse rescuer, we now have four trusty steeds,
each waiting for their own dteam to come to fruition
Our oldtimer gal..little horse,wanted to go out in the world and meet her models,
she silently held onto her dreams for years..She dreamed so long
of running through the fields and rolling in the snow with the other family horses.

One day "it" happened..Little horse made it...she woke up one day to find herself nose to nose
with the big guys and gals...
she discovered ....
Nothing is impossible...you just need to keep dreaming,
to never give up and to always keep hope alive in your heart..

Little horse also discovered it helps if you accept a little help sometimes
even if it is from farmfunnies "granny" :-)

Little horse also discovered those big guys and gals just might be terrified of you.
Little horse was so surprized when Czar,Malahara and Midnight snorted and ran from her.

Little horse calmly held her ground,waiting,listening validating her new friends as she felt empowered
with her own new found strengths.

Do you think your dreams are impossible?
Rember Little horse, never be too shy or embarrassed to seek a little help .
Sometimes sharing your dreams with somone on the outside,(or standing under you in the rafters) will allow you to clarify what really matters to you..

Go ahead and dream big..nothing is impossible :-)

I thought I would share a reflection of some of my recent coaching lessons.
All of us ,not just coaches, can use these basic lesson/skills, in every area of our lives.

Listening,creating a safe place to "be" for them to share,to validate their thoughts,values,cares concerns,hopes,dreams ideas...

Being present..that is... being THERE , not reading,watching something on a screen, but THERE.

Really there for whomever you are with:
Big, little,old ,young, even feathered or furry critters need and appreciate these listening skills.

Challenge:
Who do you listen to?
How do you listen ?
What do you hear ?
What do you convey as you listen?

now for my reflections of my class

Learning to listen to the unspoken words, ones perhaps unconsciously held captive within a clients heart.

Listen closely, can you hear the hurt , sense the pain perhaps long ago instilled by a simple ,careless word ?

Perhaps invalidation of their personal worth ,when no one seems to really "listen"..they ...become...INVISIBLE.

Listen, wait, your clue could be hidden, it could be in a toss away word.
Reflected back , their words, perhaps they are the key that can unlock the door for success.

Wait, listen, wait...it may be tossed out in a simple sigh, or perhaps even in a laughing jest.

As their coach, you can create a safe harbor, for truths to come to light. You can create a place for confidence to grow, allowing your client to successfully take wing..soaring into their bright,new future.

Lessons from listening,being present and creating a safe place...

There was sunshine today, Mary Queen of Scott's had her royal honey army buzzing me today.

I noticed the little heads of my daffodills peeking up through the soil...

There was a promise of spring in the air....

Time to reflect how fast this month has already gone...

Time to find my "magic" love potion cake recipe for valentines day...

But now...it is time.... for those promised oatmeal recipies...

I hope you didn't keep your oven on all day after you made my yummy applesauce oat bran muffins.

Oatmeal cookies.... 375 degree oven

I'm not sure where I got this recipie from, I just know it is our favorite one.

1 1/4 cup of margarine (creamed i.e. beat until it looks creamy

( I am a fan of Paula Deans,and I have her passion for using butter in cooking. Our beloved Jerseys gave us the best butter, sigh..they are gone now. I must say though, butter doesn't "work" well in most cookie recipies, the cookies spread out too much...I do like Mrs. Batemans baking butter( a low fat butter and marg subsitute)

1/2 cup of sugar,3/4 cup of brown sugar (packed) I'm researching a natural sugar substitute called whey low

stir into the butter until well mixed

1 egg ( our hens say YAY..eat more eggs),1 1/2 tsp of vanilla

1 1/2 cup of flour, 1/tsp of baking soda,1 tsp of salt,1 tsp of cinnamon, 3 cups of rolled oats ,

mix all of the ingredients together

you can add 1/4-1/2 cup of finely chopped nuts , and 1/2 cup of rasins ,if you wish

our kids liked their cookies "plain" drop by tsp onto an ungreased cookie sheet bake 8-10 min

our favorite meatloaf

1 cup of tomato sauce

3/4 cup of rolled oats,1 egg

1/4 cup of dried onion flakes , 1/2-1 tsp of salt ,dash of pepper

2 lbs of hamburger meat

mix together and place in a bread pan(9x5loaf pan)

(sometimes i will shape a loaf inside a glass baking dish..but it isn't as stable.

I cover the top with more tomato sauce or sometimes a homemade bar-b-q sauce.

or add 1 tsp of vinegar and about 1/4 cup of bwn sug to the tomato sauce

bake 1 hr at 350 degrees after about 30 mins I will put potatoes in the oven too

baked potato 'secret' I wash and scrub mine well ,rinsing well under running water

I will dry them a bit and rub butter or shortening all over them and place them like that

on a pie pan in the oven . As soon as they feel soft when you squeeze them, bring them out

give them a good squeeze all over, slice the top and stick in a cube of butter.(wrap them and keep warm

until the rest of your meal is ready to be served.(also with a growing family and limited groc money while the chilkdren were still at home, I seldom bought baking potatoes, we also ate the skins ,they are good for you.

make a cole slaw or salad, maybe a carrot salad as well (these you can make earlier in the day

I always baked homemade biscuts as well. (these only take 8-10 mins of baking time)

you'll have a wonderful healthy meal that is hubby and kid pleasing ..it will fill them up and satisfy their creature comforts too.

If your bunch can afford the extra calories, a slice of homemade apple pie and freshly made icecream

will polish off your meal till you shine.( or you can cheat and buy real icecream..(the kind made with real cream and sugar and not all the 'stuff" that tastes like plastic..it looks like it if you leave a bowl of it set out for a while , bleahhh

ok you win, here is my cole slaw, much like the colonels

shred 1 head of cabbage ( I like to cheat and use a processor, careful or you'll have cabbage soup

1/4 cup of dried onion flakes

1 tsp of salt 1/2 of a carrot shredded(can omit)

1/2 cup of sour cream ( oops none in the fridge? evap milk or even plain milk with a tsp of vinegar

( it will curdle or as my grandma would say clabber)

3 Tbs of vinegar ( I always use real apple cider vinegar ..watch your lable as apple cider vinegar can mean it is "flavored only, there are health benefits to real apple cider vinegar.. I now buy and use Bragg's raw apple cider vinegar .

2 tbsp of olive oil...mix together and chill at least an hour ( I know sometimes you're late and you forgot to make it ahead..go ahead and use your cole slaw it's ok, it just tastes better when the flavors... marry..:-)

may your family have a wonderful time sharing a wonderful homecooked meal. together.

(left overs make a great sandwich for hubby to take to work..think of the money you'll save and I'm sure he will be envied..how many people have a lovingly homemade lunch nowdays?.

Lets bring back the family to America....the table is a good place to start...

while you're at it ,what about sharing a short thank you to God for His mercy,love and the ability to eat, some cannot (ever help a tube fed person, I'm sure they would be thankful to eat again)

of course you can Thank God for anything, you will be the one who is blessed.

You never know what is around the corner.

At our 1st annual marketingmerge event (also known as RenPro) we were encouraged to look for solutions to problems, to not give up when we hit what appears to be a brick wall. If you hang in there, you can become a problem solver, a solution provider. Then give back and also share with others.

The good Book says ..as you give ,so shall you receive.

Do unto others as you would have them do to you

and one I also know to be true, you can't out give God.

Many very wealthy unbelieving people know this is a basic truth( umm try..universal law, like gravity)

they know it "pays" to give generously to various charities.

I'll share a great family story which is a good example of using a problem to create a solution then getting unexpected and overwhelming results.

Farm funnies hubby's mom once created a wonderful meal that had everyone begging for more.

The family was tired and hungry they'd worked hard all day in the fields picking beans ,just to survive.

The family was living in a tent ,at the time, in a camp for migrant workers.

(I remember working in the fields sometimes to help our family too, though my parents let us keep what we earned, hubby's family could not.)

Mom said to her hungry brood, "I don't have anything to cook for supper".

Dad asked if she wanted him to go to town and get something,

Mom said" get whatever you want"..Dad repeated "what do you want me to get"?

Dad was getting a bit annoyed that mom didn't give him a list.

Mom again repeated ,"just get whatever you want".

Mom was tired ,still busy caring for the needs of the kids,she didn't care what Dad brought home ,as long as it was food to feed the clamoring kids.

Dad, somewhat miffed, went to the store and brought back a 2 qt bottle of beer, that was it.

When Dad came home,Mom asked what he'd brought home for super , he held up his bottle of beer.

Mom yelled "WHAT"..Dad grumbled "you told me to get what I wanted, and this is what I wanted."

Mom upest with him asked "what am I going to feed the kids"?

Dad just looked at her and shrugged his shoulders.

Mom looked into her meager supplies to see what on earth she could manage to feed their hungry kids.

All she had was some bacon grease and some cornmeal..

Mom (one of the best cooks I ever knew, by the way) made what else, cornmeal gravy.

Mom dished it up for the hungry kids.

She didn't put out a plate for Dad , telling him,in no uncertain terms.. "you HAVE what you want".

While the kids were enjoying their meal, and Dad his,the family living in the tent next to them, came over to their outdoor wood plank table ,saying "man that smells good ,what is it?"

Dad ,to annoy Mom ,said "it's cornmeal gravy,come on over and have some".

Mom glaring at Dad,made another batch of cornmeal gravy.

The "guest" said "this is great " yelling to others in the camp,"you all gotta come and try this".

Before poor .tired Mom knew what was happening half of people in the camp(about 40-50 people) had lined up for some of her cornmeal gravy.

Lesson...keep the communication lines open and make sure what you want or need is made clear (clarity)

Take stock of what you have, don't get frustrated, just be creative ,using what resources you have.

Be ready and open for something new...and then stand by for resluts and unexpected results (growth)

Then take what you make or create ,giving value and sharing with others
(I'll be politically un -correct and say if you want to eat, then WORK for your supper.
Don't expect others to take care of you..by this I am not saying don't accept help if your really need it, I've recieved government food and it sure was a blessing at the time..but here is the deal...use what God gave you to use..for that matter if you are "stuck" right now deal with it,(make cornmeal gravy) move on and become the best..

I am so thankful for those who have shared so much with me.

My first thanks goes to my moms mom, my wonderful patient, praying ,sharing ,giving Grandmother.

I shudder to think where our family would have been without her, I like to think her prayers are still

surrounding us with her pleas for our protection .

Next would be my own mom, she was and still is amazing, few would believe what she has endured

for her faith in God, what an example of God's love in the midst of earthly hell.

January is National OATMEAL month: Apple Cinnamon Oatbran Muffin (no sugar)

The hens went to bed early,

they all needed their rest...

mom had out her cookbook ,

oatmeal was her glorious, heart warming quest

somewhere she had a recipie, handwritten ,within

for meatloaf and cookies that always brought a grin

She was planning to share them with others today

hopefully them too they clucked ,early risers,in nests made of hay

sure mom would find their gifts and expand her recipie project

baking those cookies , hopefully "creating" some she would reject

the hens all agreed the rejects were absolutely divine

their tastes perhaps, they declared ,weren't so sublime

so what if the bottoms are a bit charred

it just makes them more crunchy,not totally marred

bruawkked !!! I did it !!! the first hen did declair

my egg is the first of the day, the first cookie is mine

it's only fair !

Oatmeal

moma said eat your oatmeal it's so good for you

my horses all agree..just look at us: we're healthy ,big and strong..

Apple Cinnamon Oatbran muffin...

I love this recipie, it is a heavy ,moist and dense. It tastes, oh ..so good..it keeps well too

pre heat oven to 400 degrees

2 1/2 cups of oatbran(you can buy this in bulk in stores that have bulk food bins)

you could even trade this out with old fashioned oatmeal and adjust your liguids a bit

1 1/4th tsp of cinnamon,( Sometimes I like to add more as well a a bit of ground ginger

I love these two spices)

1 Tbsp of baking powder, 1/4-1/2 cup of finely chopped nuts ,1/4-1/2 cup of raisins

1/2 cup of skim milk

3/4 cup of undiluted (not reconstituded) froz apple juice

2 eggs (this makes my hens happy and hopeful) ,pinch of salt

you can add 1 med apple grated( if I do I grate skin and all )

spray muffin tins(12 reg size) or line with muffin cups

bake 15 -17 min (watch should brown lightly)

these muffins do not rise very much, so I fill the tins to the top

pour a glass of milk (soy or almond milk, for my casein free fans )

cook up an egg maybe two ,any way that you choose ( eat more eggs :-)I need to keep my hens employed)

set out some orange and apple slices (there is proof in how an apple a day,helps keep your Dr. away)

actually eating an apple before each meal is a good thing to help with weight loss, as well as giving you great health benefits. I suggest finding a good source for local apples whenever you can...

I have a theory that home grown products , have some intinsic benefits ,

besides I love to support our local farmers...

Heins famous blueberries anyone?

hey...I could have had a V8 :-)... I need to try adding some blueberries to my muffins , in place of the raisins.

Digging..do you have the right tools for success?

Yesterday I had a shovel in hand, I needed to do some digging.

A shovel was what I needed until I hit a large root, then an axe or gubbing hoe would have allowed me to overcome that obstacle ..I stopped.

I may have stopped digging yesterday ,but I will return, I know what is needed to complete this work.

And I know the work will be finished because there is a clarity of my need.

Clarity of your need is needed for success, no matter what it is you want to accomplish

There are many kinds of success.

A shovel,pick axe or grubbing hoe would most definitely not be helpful in my home business.

The tools I have available for my business,thanks to Ann Sieg,Mike Klingler,Alicia Bausley and Lisa Hanfileti would not be helpful moving that pile of dirt.

The coaching tools I am learning with Barbara Silva wouldn't move one shovel full of my outside dirt either.

So here I am I have all of these tools available to me, what do I do?

I look at the need, and I choose the correct tool...

If I use the grubbing hoe for digging I certaily could dig that hole,but it sure would take a lot longer.

Without using a pick axe I will find digging nearly impossible , but I do need it,at least until that obstacle is removed.

I also need to know how to use these tools.

If someone had not shown me how to use them , perhaps I could have figured out how to use them on my own, but it would have taken longer,

Think about it, unless you know to step on the shovel, the actually do it, your work is definitly harder.

Look at what you need to do to day, see if you have the right tools.

Don't be afraid to ask someone to at least tell you where you can get them

( shovels are not generally found in a grocery store, in case you hadn't noticed)

Don't be embarresssed to ask for a bit of help, even if it costs a little money for advice.

If you can't afford help, be creative, maybe you can do some swapping of some kind.

My dear friend Jeanne Warren will sometimes swap some of her work for something

she swapped me a lovely print of her paint foal painting for one of my singing canary babies.
We were both happy campers with our swap, her kids were not, man could that baby canary sing
and he did..loud and long :-)...
Jeanne's kids finally convinced her to swap him with somone for something else.
I wonder where my baby is now..I still have his joyous and proud papa.

Q. How long and how much sweat do you really want to put into digging into whatever ?

Q. How much beauty (success)can you enjoy if you "swap" or get help, or will you miss if you don't?

I'm glad I can start work outside today knowing I need to carry an axe with me to remove a root so I can finish the work that is needed.

I'm also glad I can continue to work on my business later, because I have some great tools to assist me,

umm lesson to self...we often learn truths when we share them don't we :-) ? ...so-o-o BETTY

stop being embarrassed about my technical obstacles and get some help to show me how to implement those tools...( I'm sure I will laugh myself silly when I see how I kept trying to use a "pick axe" in place of a "shovel" in certain business areas ..)

Now that wasn't so very hard was it?

Start digging for your success..you will undoubtably unearth great treasures along the way.

p.s.Make sure you can trust anyone giving advice, you sure don't want to be whacked by a shovel ..
also even if you trust this person,perhaps they aren't the right "one" at this time..it happens

This morning while I was doing basic critter care, I noticed something very unusual.

Bizzie Lizzie is getting to be a big girl, and her mommie Vonetta is rather short.

Problem...breakfast was apparently a bit too low to the ground.

Or perhaps Bizzie Lizzie just wanted to be a "couch"alpaca potato .

Whatever the reason, I only wish I had had my camera with me..

Bizzie Lizzie was all comfy ,curled up in cozy cush position right under mommie.

Guess what..lil' miss Bizzie was having her breakfast in bed...

I wish someone could explain why I can go for days carrying my camera in my pocket

and nothing cute or unusual happens...

THEN even if just for an hour my camera is left in the house...

get the picture? good because I didn't :-0

Also can anyone explain why "they" can have breakfast "in" bed and I can't?

It's obvious that this goodie laden tray contains pure unadulterated CANDY...
(alias SUGAR and no doubt lots of high fructose corn syrup "ta boot" in them "thar" sweets)

Things are not always as they appear on the surface or at first glance...(are they?)
ummm can you smell the warm pumpkin and blueberry muffins?

Did you even see them? Now I confess these muffins may have some health advantages over the out and out candy treats, but these muffins were made with a convience mix( I cheated)

The best muffins are when you make them from "scratch" using whole grain and healthy sweetners.
( I am currently researching a new sugar replacement called whey low (http://www.wheylow.com/ (using whey..the liquid left when you make cheese).
Hmm, I need to buy a product I recently discovered. it's called squeeky cheese . I need some for my grown kids..I often made homemade cheese while they were still at home. Even at it's best my cheddar cheese was squeeky and when they thought they could get away with it they liked to bounce it.
Had I realized it I could have had a corner on the new fun squeeky cheese for your kids, gold mine.I could have been famous and wealthy with my cheese. If our kids would have been more supportive why just think of the possibilities..they really did eat my cheese ,but only after tormenting me with their squeeks and bouncing contests held on the kitchen table..then again I am learning from Ann Seig,Mike Klingler and others at our marketingmerge group, problems are good, they can lead you into something good..my cheese making was golden, had I thought positive.. someone else did..waaa...a note to the wise...look at your problems from another angle..you may have something just waiting for "fame and fortune" at its worst we enjoyed very stretchy melted cheese sandwiches.(well... honestly at it's worst my cheese didn't melt, sigh)

We know this is true in most areas of life...correct?

OK ..so this year you are going to eat,cook ,choose...BE healthier...and for that matter ,so IS your family...(especially if you are the chief cook and bottle washer, right ?...go "team...team go)

PROBLEM: Even we are doing "it" right,or at bare minimum "better"
incorporating more fruits and veggies into you and your families menu...did you know..

DANGER could be lurking in yhour shopping cart...

Into your basket goes a nice healthy apple(well ,hopefully you placed it in a bag or something,not the "bare" basket( I've seen it happen folks) umm did you ever think about how many germs are simply in /on that shopping cart?
One of our children bagged groceries when in high school. You would hardly believe the shopping cart "horror" stories ....bleahhhh... 20( or is that 30?) years later I can still get chills down my spine...

Think toddler,think not well potty trained ,think minus diaper,think sitting inside "your" shopping cart basket not on the childs seat...
think again...kid needs to go now... mommie...
Think not too attentive or even "with it or "there" mom type.
Then please think and send up some pity/strength prayers for the poor baggers who serve you, no doubt you hardly think of them past perhaps a thank you.. they get to mop the floor (again)..
The basket? who knows., if you're lucky perhaps it was left outside and got rained on...your salad greens may be resting in it now...

I Thought not, I generally don't pay them much mind either. so I guess I am "guilty" too...

You don't need a secret decoder ring to decipher this, just remember a couple of numbers...
hey if you have senior moments, or have a multi task mind (most of us do,right? )
then write these numbers on the top of your grocery shopping list.(the back of your hand works too)

The secret "code" any four numbers on your produce means it was grown conventionally,
when that little sticker has five numbers then it was grown one of two ways:

If your healthy yummy /produce begins with the number 8 ummm it was genetically altered

....awwwk ,as for me and mine...we don't "mess" with mother nature, there would be outright mutiny down here on da farm :-)

If your produce starts with 9, well it would give me and a few of "mine" peace of mind, organic is its "secret" meaning.

Perhaps you would like to try raising your own HEALTHY food...
even if you live in the city home grown fruits and veggies are very doable... there are food co-ops,exchanges,shares,,farmer delivery "baskets" ,farmer markets etc.

Don't know how to put up or put by? Hey just a little "digging" pardon the pun :-) in
your library,dept of agriculture( ask your extension agent) even community collages offer gardening classes. Even the web has tons of info/ An older neighbor can often offer help there are food hotlines etc...
rows of jams,jellys,home canned fresshly canned setting on your kitchen table is not only food for your families tummies it is a feast for your eyes...

The Blues Brothers...at it again..."singing" the blues

Roo, our rescue ranger..yes he rescued our oldest grandchild when he fell into deep water.
Roo truly is our hero, even if he doesn't have a medal.

Roo loves to "sing" the blues.
However, I think Roo has recently decided to join me on my coaching cognition quest, I started in our marketingmerge group.

Why do I think that, you ask?

It's all about listening.
Evidently Roo already has good coaching skills ... he has developed LISTENING skills to a science.. and with evidently very keen ears, I might add...
BECAUSE when Roo hears a siren, our distant neighbors dogs bark or any other chosen reason
he not only pours out his heart and soul , he has successfully coached the "gang", hearing whatever they even seem to wonder about and has  assisted them in voicing such thoughts and wonderings.

As we are learning with Barbara in our coaching cognition class, a good coach will hear what is even softly spoken, or is even "tossed" out.

Roo tonight, hearing a "toss away" sniffled .gloomy ,woofly protest from both Kate and Annie , proceded to coach them . They are now passionately in touch with their inner selves, and have chosen to adhear to their core values and  let it all out,set to canine "music".
----( I had locked the canine crew in the kennel , while doing evening critter care.
One look at a couple of my loyal resident mousers suggested they would feel much better (hey, I think my coaching skills are becoming finer tuned too.)  The cats sensed I didn't have time to keep track of the canine crew tonight if they wouldn't "hang' with me. I heard and I assisted my fluffies in acheiving their goal..dogs locked up.

The blues "brothers" includes not only Kate and Annie , Roo has successfully "coached" a   pair of our nene's... evidently Roo he has instintively listened to their
inner musical passions too , because he sure has helped bring the musical qualities  out of all of them.

If we lived MUCH farther away from our neighbors, I might (briefly) find this evenings blues rendition humerous, or   even the times when the howling is syncronized melodically with wailing sirens.

However, I am a firm believer in no nonsense barking (or howling) when within hearing distance of others.
I feel it is an imposition to our neighbors who can't really do much about it..especially if they happen to have a headache. Ditto for my "enough already hollers" yikes...

Just for "fun" here is how "singing" the blues went down tonight...ready?

distant woofing as our neighbor dogs excitedly were chasing balls and frizbees,
Home "barking" MOM,hey something is going on, let us loose, we need to be sure you are ok.
Mom (me) far away yelling, (that's enough, stop it guys).
Neighbors "woof woof,hey this is a great ball" ...
"BARK BARK" goe the blues "brothers"we want to have fun too, "BARK" we mean it, "Bark,bark" let us out, we  ummm protest"..and umm LOUDLY...
mom (Stop it! ....now!)
"Bark,bark ", really, not fair, we'll be good... ummm... here kitty kitty(hope mom didn't hear that)
mom (I said enough!)
"HOWL",not fair, nobody(Meaning meanie .. mom) loves us...,
"whine"..it's just plain not fair "whine"
mom "enough, already"
"honk, honk, honk, honk, honk, honk" nene's telling the whole world.. something is going down...we better tell mom...
"shrieeeek " bobby red tail   taking wing, sails off from his hunting tree limb, shriekings as he soars overhead, hey... this sounds interesting,maybe the blues brothers will scare up some grub..
"grackle,grunk,srucnkke greekkk" ,   the biggest blues brother ,grandpa bluesfeather, protesting...how is a fella suppose to settle down for some sleep with all of this going on? as he disgruntledly flapps off departing from his favorite bedtime roost, in a nearby tree...

critter care is finished,dogs go inside with mom to eat dinner, before night patrol duties start.
Thankfully they are quiet at night...unless there is a real need.

sigh, another quiet night down home on the farm...all is well with the world...

It was all quiet this brand new year morn

I was feeling happy and yet a bit forlorn

I thot how quiet ,all others were still sound asleep

for me , even those "pesky" counting sheep...

so here I am awake early while all is quiet within this house

no creature is stirring but me and my "mouse"

My mouse doth protest this early morning ruse

and "squeaks" vehemently, early a.m. abuse

rest.. rest... it shrillingly declares...

my head agrees with early a.m. pre caffeine bugged eyed glares

yet the caffeine, with ibuprofen to calm the headache "parade"

has kicked in,preventing sleep, and creating weird poem tirades..

alas and alack is their any hope ?

perhaps I'll desist writing and google visit twitter or snopes...

oh dear twitter and snopes must now wait for me

all have awaken, breakfast is "due" is their a.m. plea

eggs(big or small? I ask),sausage,toast and cereal is "for" breakfast, of course

headache still "attached"...sleep I cry inward, but without remorse

because while at times it can be trying, this course , my life

we grow, I discover,under big or small stuff or strife

I was "kicked" out of my home when I was a young teenager,by drunken ,raging mad dad,

I did leave briefly, but miles from nowhere ,this city gal crept back home later...

My paternal grandfather,molested me when I was still a child.

I contemplated suicide numerous times during my earlier years of life.

I've made many mistakes,like we all do. Wouldn't a "do over" be helpful with gained wisdom?

I know what it is like to be without, to face angry debt collectors, to be rejected by or lied about by those who should love you and be there for you.

Homeless for a month , I lived in a camping trailer ,pregnant while my husband was in intensive care at the hospital with a serious heart condition,talk about scared.

Later my husband and I were "rejected" from receiving food assistance,when he was out of work shortly after the birth of our 1st child.

I've run a "gamut" of injuries and frightening experiences:

I've fallen into rapids, faced hungry bears, been bitten by dogs, thrown, scraped and bucked off by horses, fallen on by a horse, dragged 1/8 mile and run over by cows ,once nearly breaking my back.

I've broken bones, growth plates, torn tendon, cartilage, "enjoyed?" numerous surgeries,

survived several head injuries,fallen numerous times ,once a full story from a fire escape ladder.

I've lost precious loved ones ,as well as beloved pets.

I think you get the picture...I've really "been there ,done that",at least more than the average "joe"...

I share some of my life ... just to let you KNOW,while I may not have experienced exactly what you have or are currently facing or enduring, I've more than paid my dues to be able to say....

How we travel this road... the tracks we make on our life journey...is ultimately up to us...

Do we painfully,mournfully,self pitifully drag through ? ... OR...

Do we carpe de um ...or ,as I like to say pie a'la mode life?

Life is great...even when "bad" it is great...it depends on how you choose to view life.

Grab a mirror, take a good look at yourself,really look, deep inside.....then smile,even if you can't...( I have too)

Keep trying to smile...

Here is a little challenge to get you started...

As I told one of my up line (a fellow dog and horse lover)...

Right now...stop what you are doing at your computer, kind of hang upside down like a monkey and hop around the room ,making monkey noises (to wake up the dogs,and or drive your spouse bonkers, if you are single and or alone..do this just for you!) then hop over to a window or door

and really LOOK outside , really notice the sky,the birds the ??? take a few deep breaths of fresh air if possible ( in with the good..out with the shallow stale "bad") and then go back to work...

And remember, you can have fun along the way...even the "little" stuff is good

Magic LOVE cake for Christmas

My magic love cake version for your special loved ones ,or "someone :-)

2 days before go outside and gather 6 farm fresh eggs
from your feathered friends,wash them and refrigerate.
Purchase several pounds of oranges (1 lb organic if possible)
about 1/4 cup of whole cloves.

1 or 2 days before you plan to serve your cake and eat it too :-)
cover 1 lb of oranges (well scrubbed, the organic ones) with water and simmer for 2 hours

while your oranges simmer "stick" the whole cloves
into your remaining oranges in random patterns
( even better watch your grand kids or neighbor's kids so the parents can have
a few minutes of alone time for a cup of coffee together and let the kids do the clove "stuffing" honors( I have fond memories of doing this as a child, it's now our turn to help a kid make warm pleasant memories... when finished attach a ribbon then hang up above your kitchen stove or on the tree)

to the mushy cooled orange mixture add 6 eggs
1 cup of sugar ( or 2/3 cup of honey)
2 and 1/3 cup of ground almonds
1 tsp of baking powder
with a wooden tooth pick "apply" to batter
a touch each of frankincense and myrrh essential oils
(your Christmas "magic" love ingredients)

pour your very wet batter into an oiled 8" pan ( a springform pan is best)
bake at 375 for 40 min cover cake with foil (to protect top from burning)
bake approx another 20 min (use clean tooth pick test for doneness)
wrap and fridge until you are nearly ready to serve it
frost cake with stabilized whip cream (opt)

you will now have a "gift" of gold frankincense and myrrh
to remind everyone of the gifts for earths one and only true KING
whose birth we celebrate on Christmas day JESUS...He IS the reason for the season.

Ahhh...homemade Bath Fizzie..nice Christmas gift

Tomorrow,tomorrow, is only a day away...
well it was rather busy hear on the farm so my "tomorrow" promise for bath fizzie's was detained.

Here it is...I hope to make mine today too.

Bath snowball (my version)
1- 11/2 cups of epson s
(to create a total of 2 cups ,I use mineral sea salts for the rest
(these are a tad spendy ,so for mine I used a half off coupon at JoAnn's fabric)
1 cup of baking soda
2Tbsp of essetial oils add 1 drop ata time
few drops of food color
pack into round ball type molds,let dry 2-3 days.

Bath Fizzies
1/2 cup of citric acid (I finally found this at a pump "store",when our well pump "kicked" the bucket this last summer, I've searched for this for over a year,suppose you could google it, I just never got around to google this item,as I thought it could be found locally)
3/4 cups of corn starch (both items can be purchased in bulk
at winco stores, sift these 2 ingredients together
1/4 cup of sugar, stir this into the above mixture
place 3-6 drops of food color
into 10-15 drops of essential oil ,place these last 2 ingredients into a spritzer bottle
spray gently and lightly onto your salt/mixture ( or it will fizz) until your mixture is damp
(I can't find my recipe,if memory serves me correctly it seems the oil and color was added to 1 cup of water that was placed in your spritzer bottle, this will work,but might dilute your concentration of oil/color ,so you could try 1/2 c of water 1st..remember to spray lightly until the mixture is damp, if 1/2 cup or 1 cup of water isn't enough to dampen just repeat this part)
pack the mixture firmly into molds or an ice cube tray (rubber) let dry out
viola' pop them out
for gift giving ,place the fizzies in a clear glass or plastic jar with tight lid

Fun inexpensive gifts to make for Christmas

Yesterday I promised to share a couple of ideas that you could make for Christmas.

Aren't these polar fleece pillows adorable? You will need 1 yard for each pillow

I purchased 1 yard of light and 1 of dark blue to make 2 toned pillows. 30x30 30x36

or buy 1 1/4 yds for 36x36 sqyuares. You will cut 4-6 inch fringe, I like mine long and next time would buy a little extra fabric to make longer fringe.

Notice the snowman pillow is only half tied on the top.

The left side is not cut yet, so you could see how to cut the corners.

You need to cut a square out of each corner , then clip a fringe edge.

Tie each "set" of fringe in the same method so your edge will be uniform.

I left 1/3 of the pillow untied to put in poly fill for stuffing, then tied it when i had the pillow

stuffed with just enough "stuff"to be cozy.

The "critters" are hand appliqued on. You can have solid pillows, buy printed fleece,or applique on something you would like. When i bought this fabric, a big football type guy was buying a whole bolt each of green and yellow . I KNEW what he was going to make, and so did the other women in the store. A large he man sized comfy DUCK "snuggie" with fringe. He nearly had several women flatten him, so they could take away his two bolts, when they saw what he was going to do. Women can overpower ANYTHING when they are in shopping or sewing mode.

I'm surprised the feathers weren't flying, it was duck "season" .

The ducks (U of O) had just won the civil war...

Get this the fabric was 1/2 off at our local JoAnn's plus he had a coupon...WOW...

Now for a very fun kitchen gift..what else at farm funnies but cowgirl cookies?

For fun I followed a tweet just out of curiosity and wound up setting up a whole cool fun site.

Christmas traditions are alive and well...

Farm funnies hubby and one grown young'un

stalked found and "bagged" the perfect tree for Christ-mas this year again WHEW!

I was the slacker. With achey bones and sore throat..I didn't make the donuts or hot cocoa,

nor did I budge beyond feeding horses and alpacas and breaking frozen water for our feathered flocks).

I even skipped out of going to a TSFL training and later our family Christ-mas reunion/potluck (about 40 of us).

The stockings aren't hung by the "chimney yet.

However one of farm funnies eager beaver book readers has finished reading our traditional Christ-mas book.

Each year we read The Substitute Guest by Grace Livingston Hill.

(YIKES I haven't started mine, but don't tell anyone! Yep we each have our own copy now)

I found humongous stockings at our local $ store..

I thought the ones I made were huge. I think a whole person could stand inside these.

I couldn't resist buying them, just to see the look on every ones faces. when they see how big they are..

We each buy little odds and ends throughout the year then sneakily fill each others stockings

(Substitue guest like).

Bath beads,potholders,socks, goodies ( I sometimes buy bulk treats of things we don't usually purchase. Nutter butter cookies, hostess jelly donuts ...TWINKIES ...etc.

I divide the "stuff" so each person gets just one ,or a couple depending on what it is.

Sometimes I make stuff too.

( I wrap these items in foil, both to save me time and to seal them.

I may use sandwich sized zip lock bags,but then those have to be wrapped, WHY?

For the fun of UNWRAPPING,of course.

I never lable any of the stocking gifts from farm funnies hubby or myself.

Some of the family members do.

(I think my foil wrapping "paper" is a dead give away from us anyhow...)

Tomorrow think of something fun, some small gift to make or ? (Come jan 1st, pardon the pun, start SOCKING it away for next Christ-mas..just remember where you hide the "stuff" :-)

Make or do something fun each day. I've made a couple of fleece pillows (no sewing required)

I filled 4 large shopping bags with 25 gifts inside each bag.I gave a bag to each of our grandkids for them to open 1 package a day ,Starting dec 1st until Jesus Birthday.

Cake and ice cream is a fitting birthday celebration breakfast.

I do include Monte Cristo's,sausage,bacon,waffles. This year I am leaning towards homemade blueberry muffins and popovers perhaps .( I am making my list and checking it twice)

Most of the gifts in the chidrens bags were small fun things to do, a color book,a snow shaker, penguin socks,wind up cars, color your own mug..

In a day or so I'll share a recipe for bath fizzies and scratch and sniff stickers...

No kids or spouse or family ?

No matter,just look around you, who can you be a blessing for?

Pretend you have a large family and then deliver "stuff"to someone who doesn't have much ,or to a shelter,church ,fire station or ?

Bake cookies for a whole gang,then ship them to our troops...they will love you for it..unless you are a really bad baker...then buy cookies and decorate them with tubes of ready made frosting...

You will be blessed for giving, trust me....

Thanksgiving meal,crafts,stories and recipie ideas.

This is a picture of Horton, our very thankful pet turkey.

Our very first thankful Thanksgiving pet turkey was named Ethel.

That year we raise a number of turkey for eating,and kept Ethel for a pet.

As we sat down to give thanks for our Thanksgiving dinner, Ethel came up on our country porch

and gobbled out her heartfelt gratitude (our door was open due to all the warm cooking)and then went back to the barnyard.

She had never done that before or came back to the house after that.

Enough said I guess. ( umm come to think of it, I hope she wasn't expressing her feelings about some "buddy" or should I say biddie?)

It is one that would lend itself well for week long Thanksgiving mini history "lesson.

If I could have a do over for our grown kids, this is perhaps how I would plan a week long Thanksgiving celebration.

We'd gather some colorful fall leaves, some to use in making a ceramic platters and dishes for table use ,some for wall decorations.

We'd go to an outdoor country garden store,where crafts,veggies etc are available.we'd pick out our Indian corn,some eating corn ,some various fall fruits/veggies for filling a large cornucopia used for our table centerpiece and a pumpkin for our pies.

We'd make various corn necklaces from the Indian corn,with the above link.

The garnet necklace especially appeals to me, next town trip and I will pick up Indian corn to make one for myself.

We'd make various fall crafts and perhaps even make costumes (Indian and or Pilgrim) to wear during the week. We'd write, then practice a Thanksgiving skit or puppet show,to present one evening or on Thanksgiving day.

It would be fun to pick out red and "pale face" Indian corn to use for making corn puppet "heads".

I'd set up an Indian "basket" on the coffee table. It would be used for dropping in slips of paper with writings of what and who we are thankful for,to be read on Thanksgiving day. Perhaps we'd even weave a basket for this purpose.

We'd learn about how to be thankful, ways to be a blessing for others, what real sharing and giving is. We'd learn how to really listen with our hearts: especially to "see"the needs of others.

A lesson in manners would fit in well, especially table manners and etiquette.

In writing this post I'm seeing how this could be a whole month of lessons and fun.

We might learn some new(old) skills,such as weaving,spinning,darning,knitting.

Then we could spend time making gifts for Christmas. Socks for our troops,

potholders(even a simple inexpensive loop loom is fun. My sister and I spent many an hour creating potholders for gifts and to peddle door to door. I think we sold about 10 :-) earning a couple of dollars).

There would be fun and inspirational stories to read , story telling time and movie time complete with what else.. popcorn of course. Our movies would include Squanto,perhaps Old Yeller,(I like the movie the yearling, I cry every time. Hubby hates this movie with a passion) ,Last of the Mohican's, Follow the river(true story),selected Disney Davey Crockett movies. I'm sure there are others ,perhaps even better ones,but you get the idea.

The week of thanksgiving, we would grind corn for our cornmeal stuffing and cornbread sticks, and wheat for our rolls,(I'm thankful for my electric stone grinder)

We bake our pumpkin for our pies. We'd make corn pudding (one of our daughters is bringing this dish for our meal this year. I'd often thought to try making it but never did. there is a recipie link for it ,when you go to the link for making the necklace)

On Thanksgiving day our meal use to begin with only five kernels of corn,as we reflected on the hard winter the Pilgrims endured prior to receiving help from the Indians and our 1st Thanksgiving. How they were thankful to God,who brought them through the winter. They survived with eating only five kernels of corn per day, often chewing on leather ,among other "stuff"because they were so hungry. One could include a lesson on working, our American "dream", how free enterprise, capitalism creates economic growth and socialism destroys..

Our Pilgrams learned that lesson ,many starved to death learning it.

They learned you needed to work if you wanted to eat,something we sadly need to learn in our country again. Working hard is not a sin, it is a sin if others take from you ,what you work hard for to"share" for the "good" of all.

Many blessings to each of you, and despite the hardships so many are facing right now

we still have much to be thankful for .

We are told in scripture to be thankful in "all" things, not just the good.

This is hard to do,I know-been there done that-,but this is where character is born and developed.

Am I "wacky or what?..well this blog is dubbed farm funnies so-o-o

Is your life BORING? If it is then ....

Do what I do...think of new "stuff"...if nothing else it will keep your spouse in some state of

OH NO... Lions & tigers and bears ,OH MY...here we go again...

With out further adieu here is who ,what ,where , how my foray into mystery shopping and on line surveys came about, I got "crazy" in writing a letter to someone and my letter seemed like a great explanation AND rather ,well interesting, I thought...

....my letter...

...well , I guess my lunch break is long over. Ha, I did a dumb thing ,I think..

I decided to do on line surveys(duh..for "fun" and a wee bit of pocket change, figuring it was a no brainer ?

Yep I was right, it was a time wasting no brainer..I just spent over 1 1/2 hrs filling out a survey for a "free" gift card.

I finally got disgusted with the endless questions and "stuff" to "do" for the "free" gift, that

I happily back tracked , clicked delete and junked it all

(except for some books I ordered to "join a club , one of the choices to be eligible for my "free" gift card.

Actually the books I chose were a good deal, one book was one that had gone out of print many moons ago, I have looked for a replacement for years .

My loved and worn out copy ,needed a rest.

I ordered some extras as part of this "free" offer (not really,since postage was rather hefty,me thinketh). Now I have some gifts.

I did earn some pocket change with my survey answers, if I can figure out how to get it.

As Pooh would say...Oh Bother, what was I thinking?

Now I am getting a slew of e-mails pertaining to prizes,etc that I am not interested in.

So let the "buyer" (surbey taker)beware/

What may seem like fun at first can easily grow and become like topsy

( does this date me? I hope not as I barely remember who she was).

Surveys? duh , whatever was I thinking?

Uh oh, guess what one of my "newest" wacky ideas is for a bit of fun??

OH NO, it is to be... drum roll please...a ...mystery shopper ..

I mean after all, I may as well make the most of my town trips right?

Supposedly the mystery shopper "job" pays well. REALLY, as I do know someone who did this and did well at it, so who knows?

Just think of the intrigue and umm MYSTERY.

I know you are thinking that I may regret this adventure too, and wondering if I really "need" to add something else in my life.

Apparently so, or perhaps this is my brains way of creating a way to avoid the sink full of dishes waiting for HELP...

Yes, I know I have enough "irons in the "fire" but you know me.

I am always up to something, and this seems rather simple,fun and unique...

umm, I agree, the real "fire" may well be me being "fired" from my housekeeping "job" as the dishes do loudly protest....

Reality check ,I would have fired my "help" LONG ago.

See I did remember something from a leaders "club" lesson,after all .

As an entrepreneur you are the CEO ...so if you are getting "lousy" results.. fire the "help"

(even and especially if it is yourself) and hey at super sat we are encouraged to do reality checks,look how well i am doing :-)

It is a good thing .at farm funnies that hubby is more tolerant of the "help" than me..sigh.

I want to be riding my horse on a balmy beach RIGHT now, with the sound of the surf,the waves rhythmically splashing as we ride along the shore, the cry of an occasional gull ..

THEN my handsome WINGED prince(that is him, in the above photo, umm minus his "wings") would fly us back to our CLEAN home :-) and it would stay that way,at least a tad longer than it does all by itself.

If wishes were fishes ,why guess what ?

You could come join us for a meal of endless fish fry ...

All Hallow's Eve...

Every year I love to make cookies and purchase candies for goodie trays for All Hallow's Eve,

Christmas ,Valentines day and St.Patrick's day.

I make and purchase enough for a "gang" of 20-30 where farmfunnies hubby works, for several neighbors and friends and family.

For All Hallow's Eve I often make up treat bags for kids I know as well as some grown singles.

It is great fun, I even decorate bags . One year I glued a black pompom with eight pipe cleaner legs,tiny wiggly eyes and "drew" a silver sparkling "web"(with glitter tube paint ) for the little spider.

I am sharing this to get your creative juices "flowing"...to also create a sharing spirit within you.

When you give you get so much in return...really. Sometimes these gestures may be intangible,but never-the-less they are "there.

I double dog "dare" you to reach out in some way...don't do it to receive, don't expect or be disappointed if you see or hear nothing, but also don't be surprised at how good you will feel.

Actually I encourage you to embrace my mayflower attitude...it is actually a scriptural principal...do "it" in secret...try not to let anyone know who did "it".

This year I am inspired to do treat bags for those in the service...

I challenge you to pick a couple that you know or know of and make up a bag of treats for them,

while you are at it "tuck" in a couple of extras for them to give to a buddy who has no contact at home. You might want to make up a tray to take to your local firemen or police...include a card telling them how much you appreciate the risks and sacrifices they make to protect and keep you safe, for the freedoms they fight to maintain for you....

my owl cookies are made with two cookies dough cut outs touching one another (I "cheat" often placing two rounded drop cookies close together and flattened with a glass)

a cashew makes the beak. place a white candymelt on the warm cookie and press in a bit,then press in m&m pupils, let cool before lifting from the tray as they will break in half.

spider cup cakes....use licorice whips for legs . I found mine at a candy specialty shop

gumdrop eyes or ??? I liked making mine "hairy" with chocolate sprinkles..

for a tray I round it out with brownies topped with fudge frosting topped with candy corn

I then pile on candies to fill in the "gaps" and of course what All Hallow's eve tray would be complete without gummy worms?

Ready set, go now it's your turn to have some fun...I challenge you to make at least 1 tray

and five treat bags 2 for someone you don't know....and get ready to bless and be blessed...

Reading a new post at http://www.inthelifeofachild.com/ entitled two worms ..flooded my mind
with warm memories....ha in more ways than one.

When I was a fourth grader my younger sister and I "helped" my mom with cleaning house.
Being kids and having a mom who let us be kids,even when we "helped" , we found rather ingenious ways to do our assigned tasks.

One of my fondest (and warmest) methods we invented was our worm polishers...

Of utmost importance!...
Especially on a winters day on a cold floor,you take a fuzzy blanket and make sure you are rolled up very snugly inside it.
This needs some grownup supervision perhaps.
Trial and error will teach you how to hang on to the ends correctly, to maintain your worm skin.

Then you fall to a newly waxed floor , and your fellow "worm" and you wriggle and roll and giggle across the whole floor, inching across every nook and cranny,under tables and around obstacles until every inch has been covered and the floor shines like glass.
Consequently you and your fellow worm are both exhausted when finished , ready to sit quietly with a snack and a book .
No doubt mom herself received a few rare and well deserved peaceful quiet moments to enjoy... (this was in the "good ol days" when wax was applied to a clean floor,left to dry and buffed/polished to a high shine).

Time to reinvent some fun coupled work for your kids...
Not only does this build character
(just ask anybody who knows my sister and I and they will gladly tell you what "characters, we are!)
You will get a high shine to your floors, and have a few quiet moments to yourself, if you know how to look for them...
In the process your kids can learn the value of invention,creative problem solving,diligence (the floor only shined when it was "wriggled" just right..

I could go on and on listing all kinds of goodness traits here....now it's your turn....

I am often amazed at others creativity,

A smile costs nothing to give , even if you are not feeling well. If you want to you can smile ,

years ago I was told it takes lots more muscles to frown (why are there so many frowning faces I often wonder. Frowning is actually the harder choice,causing more self damage, if you think about it)

I know it can be hard to smile, in difficult or painful times because I have chosen to do so.

I have smiled with tears streaming down my face while looking in the mirror, because of the situation I was in at the time. At the time even seeing myself smile caused more tears, I chose to continue smiling.

Life happens, sometimes life is painful,but how we weather the storms of life is up to us, it can be a moment by moment choice.

Farm funnies hubby has a voracious appetite for....INFORMATION,
well he also loves my cooking, below this story "find" a recipe for one of his favorites.
I either inherited his appetite over our 41+ years of marriage (yep,thus far we've survived the course of life with all it's ups and downs,good and well,not so good "stuff'...YAY) or perhaps since hubby is a polomer scientist,some of his scientific curiosity seeped (infiltrated) into my artistic KISS way of life by REVERSE osmosis??? (or was it my packrat/save it ...WHOA, hold them thar horses... I won't even try to go there)
Whatever !
Now I find that as health coach I am eager to learn more things to assist my clients and team of coaches.

WATER...yep we drink it (if farm funny's hubby try to "disguise it") we need it.

The hundred dollar question is....
what "kind",how much ,why, when, where,how,and ...you have to be kidding....

If you are on our full program to safely&quickly lose weight a minimum of 64 oz non caffeinated,no cal liquid ...unadulterated pure water is preferred .

The better "option" is 1/2 0z per pound of body weight...YIKES...
when on our full 5&1program I called this the camel club...
(only I don't think the camel had to have a local "powder room" as readily accessible as this grandma did)
but hey 100+lbs lost ,a not only a new lease on life,but my life changed in ways I couldn't even imagine..wow and way cool...(or do those expressions date me?)

"it" was worth it..or as a phrase that has been stuck in my head after visiting a blog I follow...WHATEVER IT TAKES...

On my be a better coach "journey " I just learned water has been proven to actually boost your metabolism...WHAT? reported in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology&Metabolism ,it was found that drinking water increases your metabolic rate(how fast you burn calories) to increase by a whopping ...30% ....WOW....pass the waster please.....this little gem of info was "discovered" in a booklet I have written by Greer Childers check her out at http://www.shapelysecrets.com/ if you would like to get a fun easy and great workout by simply breathing...we all breath,right" so why not learn how to do it...TaDa...RIGHT....hey just doing her ugly face exercise with your kids
could start your day with the giggles...

Have fun today,drink WATER , make an ugly face ( for us baby boomers especially,to tighten that grandma, turkey... NOT...neck area)

RECIPE: great economical meal ,good comfort food...
brown lean hamburger in a skillet (while boiling rice or potatoes,to make mashed potatoes)
drain off the grease,
add some flour (amount varies with amount of meat cooked) stir into meat,
slowly add milk...(making hamburger gravy) to serve over the potatoes or rice
complete your meal with vegetables of your choice..
fresh tomatoes from the garden and corn is readily available right now ,where I live..yumm

Let's talk TURKEY... a "Paul Harvey"s" here's the rest of the story

Ok ...so I am on a turkey trail as opposed to my usual bunny trails...
(you know what I mean, coming in from relevant work,checking e-mails AND viola'

if you are not careful an hour or more has gone by,and ...well...umm I'm sure you have been there -done that , or you wouldn't be HERE now :-) ( I am ever so glad you are though!)

Here is my turkey "trail" hire contractor son and have to run to town for some supplies for a project before our Oregon monsoons descend...(fix windows and floor for an old storage trailer for my ceramic projects and "more"...)

My part in today's "adventure" was well paying for supplies of course, getting some stocking stuffer and "stuff" for a gift idea to make for grand kiddo's (oh it is a good one, more later)
and now my goal was repairing a flight pen for a pair of golden pheasants...

When farm funnies mom heads to town she tries to co-ordinate her "trip" to the best advantage
(get the stops in sync, to save time,gas and help me remember...)

PROBLEM...
why is it when you NEED something it has just gone off the shelf?

Like when I need hose repair in the middle of winter, can you find such items(not easily) .
I've learned to keep a repair bucket with a number of such stuff "in waiting"...

Who would have thought our turkeys would hatch 6 baby turkeys with fall just around the corner? (5 surviving thus far and actually doing a rather amazing job at what baby turkeys do best,minus not sticking close enough to mom ,that is (as long as our efficient mouse/rodent patrol , doesn't notice maybe they'll all make it past a nice ..albeit "small" turkey dinner,"moving" on to a bigger debut...

Anyways I'll bet you didn't know baby starter isn't to be found in the fall ???why-ever not???

(I guess no one wants to start raising turkeys with rain and snow around the corner.
I wish someone would have mentioned that little item to one very happy momma and very proud strutting papa..,
Oh , baby turkeys need a higher protein ration than the baby chick starter (which was available)...

Another small fact, did you know baby turkeys can almost east their weight of food in gold?So when you are enjoying THANKS-giving..be really thankful for that turkey meal...I know the feed stores are...ca...ching !

Nesting,and whose egg is that?

This is a picture of Horton and Little Black,
if memory serves me correctly there was one peacock egg,a couple of banty eggs
and a couple of call duck eggs in this shared nest.

Here at farm funnies you just never know who will sit on what
and sometimes you never know when and what will actually hatch.

Years ago I raised and sold canaries to pet stores.
Our 2 yr old was fascinated with the babies in the nest, she would fill a nest of coiled blankets with toys patiently waiting for them to hatch.
I would love to know what she envisioned would eventually hatch,she was so creative.

Moving to the "farm" ,two precious siblings later, our "gang" had new nesting models to emulate.
Baby sister and brother happily joined our "so big" gal , each digging to create very nice (deep)
nests in backyard sand ,then fully "fluffing" them with grass and straw.

This generally created good and peaceful play, and for the duration it was relatively easy to keep an eye on the kiddo's.
When the nesting "instinct" was in effect, farm funnies mom(me) was able to accomplish many projects that were a bit more demanding in nature.
I learned early to take advantage of the old adage: Make hay while the sun shines.

The only times I recall any difficulty was when baby brother grew old enough to enjoy guy "stuff".
Imagine a little boy,with older sisters , and him finding a hidden ,abandoned nest ...aka filled with what else...rotten eggs, just WAITING for the next nesting "game".

I will let your imagination fill in what disturbance in the "hen house" ensued.

"home remedies" for arthritis , gout , "bumps"and more

OWIE....My big toe is hurting. Is there no "rest" for the weary?

I've already had bunion surgery on it. The joint had to be "broken" to realign my toe(poor thing) , remove the bunion ,AND bone spurs ,AND some arthritis "stuff" ...
The "rest" afterwards was not particularly "restful" , not does hobbling rather poorly on crutches for MORE than the "promised" 6 weeks lend itself to work on da farm....
(No offence to Dr.'s but they"lie" to get us in there...oh you'll "only" need to be on crutches for 6 weeks...ummm he 'forgot" to include the need for crutches to "learn" to PAINFULLY walk again, the crutches let you "rest" the throbbing foot ,when you are what seems miles from the couch to prop it above the "required" heart level..I haven't noticed any couches on the farm or in pens or paddocks during that time when I was "fluffing" them up...(on crutches).
I did manage to create a sense of merriment for the critters.
The critters found all kinds of ways to "get a way" with mischief during the :
hey, mom is really SLOW... PARTY, PARTY, ...fun, fun ,fun....

"My" spur is growing again (bummer) as is "my" arthritis...Surgery was NOT fun.. umm "me not want to umm "go" there again, if at all possible.

So-o-o- I have decided to try the gin and raisin treatment that I keep coming across

I went to peoples pharmacy to see what they had to say and how to prepare this remedy

I enjoyed reading the posts with testimonials, info and questions.

I am especially interested in the ones about gout and fibromyalgia,looking forward to more info coming in on this...I even submitted a comment about "bumps"

My bump comment...

I enjoyed reading the posts. I plan to try this (next shopping trip) for my painful joints. In response to the "bumps" Q. Somewhere I heard or read whacking them will cause them to break up and reabsorb.I believe these "bumps" may be either the beginning or established bone spurs. Personally I decided to try the whacking (surgery for them is no fun,believe me..been there done that)I've "whacked" the "bumps" on my thumb and a couple of fingers and they apparently were broken and reabsorbed. (this is a hard couple of whacks ,it will hurt,I whack until the "bump" seems to disappear and kind of 'feels" it is longer attached and melting) I've repeated this several times in the past couple of years(whenever "they" seem to try to come back) and it has worked great for me.I also tried whacking a similar larger(thus perhaps well established) bone spur on big toe ,when I learned about this, it only aggravated my poor toe(but not for long,so I felt it was well worth the try).

Your dogs healthy anti flea breakfast...secret ingredients

Yesterday Kate wanted some snow, it was HOT....
so did our "little" Annie and Roo-die our wonderdog
it was nowhere to be found......

I did find something this morning I didn't want to find....a flea.....YIKES......
I have an allergic reaction to flea and mosquito bites, and they LOVE me....
so I have a passion to not allow them (or mice and rats) on our little farm

We have an anti flea and anti rodent(uninvited..hamsters,and gerbils can visit) "welcome" mat.

I will sprinkle pet and poultry dust on the yard,and "paths" if I ever find more than a few fleas.
it happens, like today..soccer boy (one of our kitties, who has been on an extended mouse hunting trip in our neighbors hay field, was the one to show me his little "friend"the first flea I've seen this year. ..why are the mice "greener" on the other side of the fence? are my kitties receiving affiliate income from the rodent "food" producers we support?

Horses: after trying numerous products daily use of Bronco spray produces our best fly mosquito protection as well as fly predators , try http://www.flypredators.com/ we lucked out
we have a healthy "batch" of the busy lil' "kids",who seem to survive each winter,
they work wonders...YAY now if they would only raise their efforts and tackle

(and a dose of horse paste wormer, "not just any kind tho")
we had similar routine for our goats and cows, we are currently minus these.

Our feathered friends & "family" we have baby call ducks now, they are so cute....

WOW, I had thought about going fishing off and on all day,
It is HOT here on the farm, even the dogs are in the SHADE...
The beach sounded like fun, but long drive in the heat.
Then every one and THEIR dog would be there already.

So one more e-mail "check" as the Barbie is "working"
and the horses and alpacas are anticipating their evening meal,
I know, I know, I am soon going to be on overtime (i.e. LATE)

Here is how to REALLY fish....ummm I think I will pass , but not pass the hook, line & sinker ,
